I will only speculate here, but I would suggest that most people fall into that trap, which is one of the primary reasons that we have a fractured political climate.

"When did we become so deliberately close-minded? Twenty years ago, we were generally more politically open. The media didn’t have that forcing influence on people, and the Internet was never a factor in how we thought about politics. We tolerated and listened to other opinions before making our argument. We disagreed, but it often led to compromise.

Now, we’re accusatory. We point fingers at the other positions, and the hope of settlement is weakened." Column: Listen to opposing views | Opinion | theshorthorn.com

You might want to take a look at your own signature there.

What amazes me is that these women continue to apply for jobs at FOX.

If Fox is such a hostile and sexist place to work, why apply? So they are willing to disregard their pride and morals to work for such a supposedly horrible organization?

And right on cue Bucky demonstrates how ignorant his comments are by blaming the victim.

Have you looked into Bill O'Reilly's divorce? Perhaps start there, before acting like you know what you're talking about.

I didn't know the O'Reillys and neither do you. I don't know the circumstances of his divorce and you only know what you read in the scandal rags because those records I believe are sealed. And whatever the circumstances, they have nothing to do with his conduct at Fox News and they are none of our business.

In my sense of ethics, I take seriously the Biblical admonition to not gossip and not bear false witness. I think the world would be a far more honest and pleasant place for all if more shared that conviction.

I think your speculation is essentially correct. Most people don't seek information anymore, they seek confirmation.

I don't need to have anything. But I'm pretty sure those accusing O'Reilly have pretty much nothin'. And I am 100% certain that those of you who really REALLY want to believe he is the awful person as he is accused have absolutely nothin' other than your pleasure that he got fired.

Actually it depresses the heck out of me to see a successful person lose standing. It's really hard for me to believe, however that all the accusations against O'Reilly were politically motivated.

May have sexually harassed women. And he and the network may have paid them off simply because it was easier to make them go away. This happens all the time, including in bogus personal injury cases. There is some former beauty queen/attorney in California who is extremely litigious, and her specialty seems to be finding a puddle to "slip" in. One that I remember was a puddle in front of a bank. And that bank did indeed pay her off rather that expose itself to all the negative publicity.

Clichés become clichés because they're so often true. But O'Reilly is really pugilistic, and I will be very interested to see how many countersuits he brings. If he doesn't, that will certainly be an indication to me given his nature.

Hi Nota, you bring up a very good point about often paying someone off even when they know it is a bogus claim just to make it go away and avoid the unwanted headlines and it is often less expensive than to litigate them. And some involving O'Reilly could be the same . But there have been times where recordings were introduced that proved O'Reilly was guilty and FOX paid out several million to settle the case(s).

A couple nights ago on Levin's radio show whose listeners know Levin is not a fan of O'Reilly because in part of his history of sexual harassment toward women went on to explain the left in this instance worked like a cabal to bring O'Reilly down. Media Matters and other left-wing groups started mailings and call campaigns targeting all the sponsors of O'Reilly's show. They also sought out those claiming sexual harassment from years back to speak out. It was successful as sponsors of O'Reilly started pulling out.

Sadly it was the loss of revenue that FOX experienced that got him fired not the sexual harassment. At the first of the month just a little over two weeks ago, when all the allegations of sexual harassment were coming out, FOX released a statement claiming they had reviewed all the allegations and stand behind O'Reilly. After all the sponsors started pulling out in the following weeks, O'Reilly was fired.

But you make an excellent point to watch and see how many countersuits he files in the coming days.

Actually, the records for this case are not sealed. The claim was that Bill O'Reilly lost custody of his child in court due to violent behavior. However, no mention of domestic violence was mentioned in the court case whatsoever. What is true, was that it was an unsubstantiated claim by Gawker, and if you knew who they were before they got shut down, you'd know that they weren't known for their honesty.

What a load of horse manure. That's a lot of denial, right here. You are talking about having ethics, yet the same man who has claimed to have ethics for years and is currently selling a book on them, is being accused of all this stuff and you are admitting to looking the other way because why? Benefit of the doubt?

I have said before, there are only so many times you can deny something bad is happening at Fox News. The culture is demeaning to say the least. The top two guys at fox news didn't just leave because the vast left wing conspiracy got to them, but if that is why you think they left, that means the left won, right? So what was it all for in the first place?

Well, people like that are going to be that way irrespective of their news sources.

Maybe, yet confirmation bias soon "trains" folks to seek out only certain sources. Much like going to an AYCE buffet that offers a great variety allows, yet will not make one deviate from, selecting only their preferred menu items.

Partisan bias.

The past year? It's been publicly discussed for many years.

And no, that hasn't changed my opinion of it.

Dang right I have glee he's gone. One less turd on TV. Maybe if we can go after Rachel Maddow next. Spread the love around. Get rid of every cheap political opinion show on air.

Actually it depresses the heck out of me to see a successful person lose standing. It's really hard for me to believe, however that all the accusations against O'Reilly were politically motivated.

Probably some were motivated by greed. He's famous. He's rich. He is in the public eye. Therefore, there is big money to be had by making some insignificant thing into a really big deal so he'll pay big bucks to keep it quiet. Lawyers are very very smart these days in calculating how much people and/or their insurance companies will pay to keep something out of court and the whims of gullible and possibly vindictive juries. Such opportunists will even make something up out of whole cloth. Imagine that.

Has he never said anything inappropriate to a woman or made a woman uncomfortable? Almost certainly he has because there is probably no human who has ever lived who has never done that unless it is somebody so introverted they don't interact with other people at all. Is he guilty of the terrible things he is accused? According to those who know him and are closest to him, that would be so out of character for him as to be pretty unbelievable.

For sure none of us know what happened, and in my opinion those who are saying the accusations against him are absolutely true are not being objective or ethical in any way and are delighting in his discomfort and personal destruction for their own political/ideological personal satisfaction.

Sean Hannity is also a wealthy, conservative and bombastic public figure. How can one explain that no similar complaints have been made, regarding Hannity?

Thank you for this. On the theory that Bill O'Reilly is not one of your favorite people and you don't appreciate his on line persona or his message much, I am especially appreciative of your objectivity and honesty.

I respect people 100% who don't like O'Reilly's program or message or dislike him personally. He definitely has irritated me a LOT over the years. :) But I sure can't find respect for repeating dishonest gossip or stuff people make up and put out there as fact in their desire to destroy him whatever their motivation to do that.

It's only been nine months total, since the news was brought to light about Ailes' and now Reilly's sexual harassment.

Before that, their behaviour was kept hidden and covered-up by huge sums of hush money and gag orders. But now that everything's out in the open, I do suspect they will have immediate problems getting quality female talent.

Would you want your wife or daughter to work there?

How does one explain it? Because unlike Bill O'Reilly, Hannity hasn't been caught making inappropriate phone calls to female co-workers in the past.

Hannity is I know happily married and I believe he practices what he preaches more than most partisan hacks.

Then show your proof that comes from something OTHER than the same yellow journalism that is repeated over and over and over by left wing sources eager to take O'Reilly down.
