My opinion has changed but not for the same reason yours has. Rupert Murdoch is reported to have strongly counseled his two sons, who now make most executive decisions for Fox News, to not cave in to Gretchen Carlson's law suit for sexual harassment. Rupert said something to the effect that if you do that, you open the flood gates for more and more attacks, all groundless mind you, and it will not end well.
The sons, however, who didn't like Roger Ailes or his programming methods, saw that as a way to get rid of their nemesis.
And now the chickens have come home to roost. I do not believe for a minute that O'Reilly is guilty of the charges against him, at least in the way they are being publicized. Nor does anybody who knows O'Reilly well. But whoever was funding or promoting the attacks won because the sons are gutless wonders without backbone compared to their dad.
And even if Fox survives losing its near #1 program in all of cable, not just cable news, there is blood in the water and the sharks are circling and other attacks are inevitable as they go after top Fox personalities one by one.
So yes, I fear youthful miscalculation, ambition, and poor judgment could continue to bring Fox down. And that will be a huge loss for those of us who valued a credible alternative to the heavily weighted left wing propaganda and shill for progressive government and ideology that dominates the media these days.
And it allows the most evil of the proponents of politics of personal destruction more and more power.
