Is North Korea a legitimate threat?

Currently.
A threat to us? The answer is no. A threat to South Korea and Japan. Yes in a sense that one of North Korea's missiles could accidentally hit either of those two countries in a missile test.Or North Korea could resort to kidnapping Japanese and South Korean citizens again. North Korea has a history of provoking the US and nothing serious coming of it. North Korea does something ****ed up. Then it acts like a scared little bitch and hides behind China(and at one time the Soviets as well) like China is its big brother.Heck sometimes North Korea gets more foreign aid out of the deal if it promises to behave itself.

Not currently a direct threat to the US, but certainly an immediate threat to US allies in the region.

A threat to who? To us? Not at all. They might be to others in the region, but if they ever did try anything, they could be blasted off the map in moments.

Seems like they are currently trying to develop long-range missile that can deliver a nuclear warhead. So that would make them a threat.

Yes and no. They will keep barking a lot, but any actual military action by North Korea would be suicide, and they know it.

Nope, and they never have been: they're China's spoiled little negotiating tool.

They have the range to nuke South Korea and Japan, but it depends on whether, or not Kim is stupid enough to do it. It all boils down to one thing: does he think he can get away with it. If The Free World *****foots around and makes him think he can, then he's definitely a threat.
