Posts like this demonstrate why there is absolutely no chance for common ground among the two sides of this fractured country!

Good Grief! Until 1965 immigration laws were written with one goal to preserve the European character of this country.
'America isn't homogeneous.' It was when Carter ran for president in 1976, 90% of those voting in that election were
Non-Hispanic whites, their was nothing particularly faulty about this country then, & the hated of opposing views was
not nearly as pronounced.

Things change.

Yea they have in the last 50 years, & not for the better. That's the primary reason for the turmoil we are experiencing now!

No, the primary reason for the turmoil we have now is Republican voters voted for a birther as president because he told them he was going to build a wall and ban muslims.

So if I own a home, but I have to let everyone into it who wants to come in, do I really own anything?

If you actually owned your home and property you could do what you want. However you do not own your home or property. The government deeded you the land and with that contract comes restrictions such as taxes and laws you must follow and abide by or the government will take the land back away from you.

In order to build a house on the land deeded to you by the government you must get permission and approval. You cannot just build any type of home you want. Again there are restrictions and laws governing what you can or cannot build. There are zoning regulations, building codes, taxes, and on and on. Anytime you need a permit or license you are getting permission from the government to do something. Part of getting permission is adhering to the rules and restrictions put forth by government.

You probably think you have freedom as well.

I voted no for all the same reasons most people voted yes and the reason is about culture, specifically the value of tolerance itself within our culture. We fought hard against “thought policing” for us to finally have within our culture rare elements that I want to protect and preserve.

“diversity as a strength” is practice wherein one can not believe whatever they want whenever is critical of other cultures and beliefs. One then is said to be tolerant only if they keep any non-politically correct belief to themselves even if they have no intention and show zero indication they want to enforce that will on anyone else. Asking for tolerance in return for showing it should be a basic tenet, but instead “diversity” says tolerance is subservient to a higher ideology.

I believe strongly this idea comes out of “diversity” in the sense that although we tolerate other cultures, they chose not to tolerate us which creates blowback. The reality is tolerance is in its infancy in our culture and is not the norm. Like many out of norm things it is under attack from within and from without.

We need to fight the ideology of diversity! Not diversity as an observation of multicultural society which has been the norm since the dawn of human kind, but the idea tolerance will only be given when it is given in return.

diversity seems to genarally be a threat to white folk, typically GOP folk .........

I think that's an easy thing to blame regarding jobs - blame automation - blame online shopping - blame jobs lost to other countries. We need diversity - it makes us better.

I'm a white male, age 56 .............. IMO whitey in general has a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge ****ing chip on their shoulder ..............

For me it depends. I think some diversity is great and only enriches our society however I feel that it is possible to over saturate to the point that we lose our own culture along the way. There have been instances in history where an area had such an influx of foreigners that their own society collapsed and was overtaken by foreign influences.

Too many people are now taking up space in this country who at best don't give a damn about it, and at worst do not wish it well. Forty years' worth of marinating public school students in the slop of political correctness and multiculturalism, drumming into them the litany of America's past sins while slighting its great accomplishments, has made them ashamed of this country and sympathetic to its adversaries. America now is home to millions of ignorant slobs who dislike their own country and have turned President Kennedy's famous exhortation on its head. For these dim ingrates, it is "Ask not what you can do for your country--ask what your country can do for you.

A matter of perspective.
Diversity doesn't keep people from cooperating, sectarianism does.
Diversity doesn't make anyone kill their neighbour, sectarianism does.
But the two often go hand in hand. All high-diversity soceties are not sectarian, but all sectarian societies are high-diversity.

So what kind of diversity are we taking about? Racial? Cultural? Political?
You have some racial and cultural friction, but I would say that political sectarianism is your biggest problem at the moment. (And you would have to be a drooling moron to believe that this means that all political diversity is bad.)

So I would say you should keep your eyes open when you incentivize or de-incentivize, in order to get "good" diversity.
Much like raising children, training animals, or screwing with your coworkers' minds.

You are confusing two definitions of home. You have your personal private home. You have a home country, which you must share with others whether you like it or not. I can't tell you to leave and you can't tell me to leave.

No, no, no.
You can tell them to leave, or they you. Neither have to listen or follow through with what they have been told.

The Europeans started diversity when they came to the American continents.

The native Americans were here first.

Any Europeans who don't like diversity can go back to Europe.

Just sayin'.

Diversity is a threat to all we hold dear.
As a Trumpist I say all should be white or we invite other babies to populate us.

Come back and tell us all about it in about in about 50 years after massive demographic change hits full force like a tidal wave and reduces the GOP to a minor, regional, party.

I"d like to hear what you have to say then.

"No one can stop time and/or change."

I share my home country with my fellow citizens. We all together own the country. Foreigners do not own it, nor do they have a right to live here.
