Alabama Senator Sessions testified before his colleges in the US Senate during his confirmation hearing for the cabinet position of Attorney General of the US

IMO during that testimony Sessions committed perjury by stating he had no contacts with Russian officials, which we all know now to be a false statement

Poll Question = Did Sessions Commit Perjury? a simple Yes, or No will be appropriate ........... thank you

Before anyone can answer that, we need more information...

1) Was he under oath?
2) What exactly was the relevant question(s)
3) What exactly was his answer?

The White House has stipulated Sessions met the Russian Ambassador once in his office in conjunction with his responsibilities as a member of the Armed Services Committee and once by accident at an event.

Edit . . . And, by the way, perjury must also prove intent to lie.

We need the transcript of what was specifically stated by Sessions and the question asked

He was asked what he would do if it came to light that members of the Trump team had met with Russians.

He decided to volunteer that he himself had not met with Russians.

The ONLY time you're told to raise your Right hand is when you're under Oath ... so he wasn't trying to get the teachers attention.

evidence MUST always be heard, there is always time for justice

Re: Did Sessions Commit Perjury?

I'm inclined to say no, since legally they would have to prove that he did not believe that his reportedly false statements about “the Russians” to be true.

But he's trying to bring back the War on Drugs so **** him, PERJURY!

cannot be answered not enough information yet.

I agree.

But from the outside looking in, it does not look good.

But my guess is that in a wordplay vs plausible deniability kind of way he will have enough wiggle room.

But without the perjury, there is still plenty of information that should say Sessions should recuse himself .

I don't think he was asked if he had had any contact with Russian officials. He was asked if he had discussed the election with Russian officials. And he said no. And there is no evidence of any kind that he did not answer truthfully.

Probably not, if only because his answer was very narrow and specifically excluded certain aspects.

Re: Did Sessions Commit Perjury?

Well, that is a bit too early to tell, that will have to be investigated but the government branch that is supposed to investigate the illegal ties to Russia may himself be part of the illegal contacts and on top of that he lied at his confirmation.

I have also read that he was one of the people who voted in favor of conviction/impeachment of Bill Clinton because of his perjury. And while in theory perjury is perjury, Clinton lied about keeping it in his pants, Sessions may have had inappropriate contacts with the Russian government and possibly lied at his confirmation hearings. To me what Sessions did could be worse, even though Bill Clinton was a moron for lying about having sex with Lewinsky, a big moron.

It's called, What Goes Around, Comes Around.

... you know, every Dog has it's day type of stuff.

so you are saying because you felt someone was unfairly treated by law, that the next person coming along should be treated unfairly and so on and so on?

If Sessions did indeed lie, it would absolutely be worse, but like you say a lie is a lie (under oath). At that level, AG/Pres, etc., I am not willing to entertain distinctions in severity by biased partisans.

Not saying you are, but some would be. General comment.
