Poll incoming.

I read this article today:
Majority of Americans trust the media more than Trump: poll

And it gave me an idea for a poll. How do people here at DP view the trustworthiness of Trump and the MSM? Do you personally find Trump to be more trustworthy and honest than the MSM, or vice-versa? Do you think neither of them are trustworthy?

For me, I don't find either Trump or the MSM to be all that trustworthy. Trump has lied about so much, and doesn't really even seem to care whether the stuff that he's saying is factual or not. For a guy that racks on the MSM constantly for spreading 'fake news', he sure does say a whole bunch of crap that's just totally untrue. Now when it comes to the MSM, I don't think they lie as much as Trump does, but they do tend to have a whole lot of sensationalism in their reporting, to the point where I can't trust their reporting sometimes.

What's your thoughts?

I don't think the MSM is untrustworthy, they are just hopelessly biased. Their dishonesty is in the pretense that they are objective.

MSM by light years.

Is MSM trustworthy? Depends on what they are reporting.

Then there's this 'media' poll
Fox News Poll: Voters divided over trusting Trump or the media | Fox News

Neither, although you may not be able to trust Trump, you can trust Trump to be Trump.

The MSM can die with 2016 for all I care. Until a network comes out that just gives me the news, straight cold and dry, and doesn't try to tell me what to feel or push any narrative.

If you critically approach the two you'll soon find that the MSM, whilst far from perfect (or even good), actually cite sources, consult experts, write articles of more than 140 characters, stay on topic, write/speak legibly etc etc etc.

So it goes without saying that they win this by a rather large margin.

To those complaining that it's unwatch/readable due to bias, how about you use that little thing up in your head called a brain and critically evaluate the news for yourself based on the individual stories that are put out. Approach things with skeptism, look for corroborating sources, consult those who are more knowledgable. It's not that difficult, and you'll end up a damn sight better off than if you just stick your fingers in your ears and yell 'laalalalalallaaalaala'. Democracy relies on an educated populace, remember.

I don't fully trust the MSM for earlier stated reasons (egregious biases, spin, lies of omission, etc; saw that ugly side in full swing with Bernie), but I don't trust Trump at all. Since you're asking which of the two I trust more, the MSM, definitely.

My thoughts are that I don't believe the poll.

This. ^^^

The MSM doesn't flat-out lie, but they are biased and as such lie-by-omission, at times.

Trump, on the other hand, flat-out lies, and often.

I took the question "Who do you trust more?" at face value. That precludes "both" or "neither" options. It's an either/or question.

There are polls out on both. People don't trust Trump or the MSM. However, the MSM hasn't been trusted for years whereas Trump is the new kid on the block.

These are my thoughts exactly. Yes, the MSM has a bias, but they report on real stories. The viewer should be enough of an adult to take in the information about the story itself, and not blindly listen to commentators opinions on it. Trump regularly remarks on fake stories. No amount of critical thinking will tell you the basic facts of a story if they aren't presented.

Still, bottom line, the media should not provide biased coverage in the first place.

While the MSM does by nature contain a varying measure of bias, this bias goes both ways, is usually discernible, and can be mentally jettisoned.

With Trump, virtually every sentence he utters has to be fact-checked.

“The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!” - Donald J Trump

I rest my case ....................

Still, bottom line, the media should not provide biased coverage in the first place.

Nearly all media is privately owned. I understand the desire for MSM to not be biased, but they are under no real pressure to do so. The POTUS should be under pressure to be at least a little bit credible.

The media by far. Any one outlet might get something wrong but I can check multiple outlets.

Some of the media is just flat out anti-Trump. CNN, for example, should be embarrassed that their "reporting" smacks more of Media Matters than CBS.

Trump, on the other hand, seems to have an affinity for exaggeration. Actually, it's less an affinity and more a compulsion....nearly a psychosis for exaggeration. Now, that aspect aside, he does seem to do what he says he's going to do and has been rather restrained in what he has actually implemented. One may not recognize the restraint due to the likes of CNN and a billion ***** hatted agitators performing their own version of exaggeration but he has been fairly restrained.

I don't think the MSM is untrustworthy, they are just hopelessly biased. Their dishonesty is in the pretense that they are objective.

I'm sorry but I can't be that charitable. When they put the inflammatory and misleading headline on the story, when they select a photo deliberately intended to evoke a particular emotional response, when they omit or, in hope the reader won't see it, they bury any possible extenuating fact that would alter the impression they intend to promote, that isn't bias. That is dishonesty in the first degree.

The President is impulsive, remembers facts wrong, and speaks in a kind of verbal shorthand of half sentences and only partially expressed thoughts and all that provides fuel for a lot of negative speculation and opinion, but I honestly do not believe he intends to lie.

I strongly believe that many in the media deliberately do.

So the media doesn't have to be credible but the president does? You mean the same media that the left defends as being the pillar of the Earth when polls consistently show that most Americans don't trust the media? Is that the media you are referring to?

I would like the media to be credible. Generally speaking, they are privately owned and are not required to be unbiased. The POTUS is publicly owned and so they must make an effort to be credible. There are plenty of people on the left that do not see the media as being unbiased. That's exactly why polls show that most Americans don't trust the media. If more Americans are on the left, and they all believed that the media was unbiased, then polls would reflect that instead.

Well of course liberals believe the media is unbiased, because the media is biased to the left. That's why most of the public doesn't trust the media.

Do you honestly find any pleasure in tearing down straw men? We've veered of course anyways. Do you believe that the POTUS should be considered less reliable than privately owned companies?
