Which Do You Trust More: Trump or the Media?

Which do you trust more?

Trustworthy in what way?

To tell the entire truth - from both sides? Neither.

To deliberately present the truth in a way to serve their own agenda? Probably the MSM.

To not have a clue what they are talking about? Trump DEFINITELY.

I honestly believe Trump is too spoiled, ignorant and self centred to lie that much. I believe he - more or less - means whatever he says.

But I think he is probably delusional. His behavior often times, clearly indicates that (like his Sweden comment).

The question is whether that delusion is permanent or temporary (a product of the extremely sheltered environment he has lived in for so long). I do not know.
For America's sake - I hope the latter.

Poll incoming.

I read this article today:
Majority of Americans trust the media more than Trump: poll

And it gave me an idea for a poll. How do people here at DP view the trustworthiness of Trump and the MSM? Do you personally find Trump to be more trustworthy and honest than the MSM, or vice-versa? Do you think neither of them are trustworthy?

For me, I don't find either Trump or the MSM to be all that trustworthy. Trump has lied about so much, and doesn't really even seem to care whether the stuff that he's saying is factual or not. For a guy that racks on the MSM constantly for spreading 'fake news', he sure does say a whole bunch of crap that's just totally untrue. Now when it comes to the MSM, I don't think they lie as much as Trump does, but they do tend to have a whole lot of sensationalism in their reporting, to the point where I can't trust their reporting sometimes.

What's your thoughts?

On the whole, the MSM is decent. America's journalists are actually some of the best in the world, even now. I'd say they're getting things wrong a bit more than usual right now, but that's hardly surprising when you consider the sheer amount of lies that are being circulated by the administration. They're going to have to adjust to that, which in my journalistic opinion will involve slowing down the cycle and really taking their time.

But most of the time, they do a pretty decent job. Usually, they get things right. Usually, they put their story above themselves. Usually, it gives you just about the best coverage you're going to get from any news media in the world. Trust me, I've looked.

My advice would be to shut off the TV and the Twitter feed and read some actual proper news coverage. Perhaps that's why you think "news" is sensationalist.

I know it's hip these days to play respectability politics and pretend that the media is just so very beneath you. It has that nice fashionable veneer or too-cool-to-care. But let me remind you that without them, you would have no idea when Trump was lying and when he wasn't.

If the MSM is so bad that you "can't trust them," then explain to me why you turn to them when you need to find out if Trump's lying.

So far, President Trump is doing everything he promised to do. The MSM promises honesty and they're failing miserably.

Do you honestly find any pleasure in tearing down straw men? We've veered of course anyways. Do you believe that the POTUS should be considered less reliable than privately owned companies?

Privately owned companies? More biased slant. You have to call them privately owned companies now, instead of what they are, media? The media should be honest, fair, and unbiased - unless they declare themselves as not. If they can't do that (which polls constantly show they can't) then they deserve to be called out as "fake news" just like the National Enquirer, because that is what they are. If they want to be taken seriously then they need to report the news honestly, fairly, and without bias, otherwise, they are no better than the National Enquirer.

Example from just today...

President Donald Trump, meeting with business leaders at the White House on Thursday, described his administration's moves to deport undocumented immigrants as a "military operation," a label that runs counter to what his administration has previously said. "We're getting really bad dudes out of this country, and at a rate that nobody's ever seen before," Trump said Thursday. "And they're the bad ones. And it's a military operation."
Trump on deportations: 'It's a military operation'

Walking back the Trump 'alternate truth'...

Seeking to tamp down growing unease in Latin America, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly pledged Thursday that America won't enlist its military to enforce immigration laws and that there will be "no mass deportations."
Homeland Security Secretary Kelly: No use of US military to enforce immigration

Literally everything Trump says has to be fact-checked. He's a serial liar.

If you like your health care you can keep your HC...if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor.....just who is the biggest liar?

Putting 30K armed border agents on the border is a military operation.

You are completely dodging the point of this entire thread. The POTUS has more of a responsibility to be credible than news media does. Why, because news media is privately owned, and so it is acceptable for them to play up to their audience and try to make money. They aren't broadcasting just for the fun of it. The POTUS is publicly owned and therefore has a responsibility to be credible. It isn't that hard to understand.

Good question and theres a good reason why the poll results are as they are.

Your question is kinda two part.

When it comes to comparing MSM and TRUMP I EASILY pick trump over MSM every time. Only the biggest, biased, most dishonest, never to be taken seriously extremists would ever pick trump over MSM LMAO

That being said I dont fully trust MSM either but that are clearly ahead of trump but I couldnt answer neither because there is a clear ranking.

I don't think the MSM is untrustworthy, they are just hopelessly biased. Their dishonesty is in the pretense that they are objective.

Occasionally they are willfully dishonest. But generally this.

Thank you for admitting that the media are worthless pieces of trash, just as Trump has pointed out. I did learn something from you though that had completely gone over my head before. Most of the main stream media is located in the larger cities and the larger cities are predominately Democratic so it is logical to assume that if they want to be relevant to their "base" then they have to lean to the left. Your post opened my eyes to that.
