Very simple. If the president wants him there, he is.

Oh greeeeeaaat.

So if the President wants Charles Manson and the leader of the KKK to be there - according to you - they are qualified to be there.

Noted.

Trump isn't qualified to sit on the NSC either... yet there he is.

No, because he's a purely political animal where people with actual experience in the matters the NSC addresses would be more appropriate.

He's like a version of Grima Wormtounge

Again, a ridiculous statement. Bannon is highly educated.
Stephen Kevin Bannon was born on November 27, 1953, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Doris (neé Herr) and Martin Bannon, a telephone lineman.[26][27] His working class, Irish Catholic family were pro-Kennedy, pro-union Democrats.[28][29] He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in urban planning and holds a master's degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service. In 1985,[31] Bannon received a Master of Business Administration degree with honors[32] from Harvard Business School.[33]

He also was a Naval officer.

I don't know much about him, but a quick read through his Wiki Bio
say he was special assistant to the Chief of Naval Operations at the Pentagon.
He holds Masters degrees in National Security Studies from Georgetown University,
and an MBA from Harvard.
He appears to have succeeded at almost everything he has attempted in life,
including organizing Donald Trumps successful campaign for President.

He has no tangible or worth while national security experience and is in a position that is primarily focused on messaging and political strategy. Not only does he not have any worth while experience to sit on the council, he is infinitely less qualified than members who's role on the council have now been reduced. It's utter lunacy, but sadly the prerogative of the President, and thus the only "qualification" he really needs is that.

That is debatable:
Steve Bannon doesn’t belong on the NSC. That’s what the law says.

Ya, he has the right credentials, and given the long running failure of the nation security apparatus to set us on a good course, and with as secret as it has become, The Rebellion absolutely needs one of our top guys keeping an eye on these clowns, whipping them into some sort of shape.

He barely qualifies as human.

Bannon's on the next front cover of Time!

Just pray that we can bring enough pressure on the GOP lawmakers to get him removed ASAP!

The Great Manipulator !

FACT CHECK: Spin Aside, Donald Trump's National Security Council Has A Very Big Change : NPR

No, because his personal biases preclude him from objectivity.

Was David Axlerod qualified to sit on the NSC?

I choose "Other", but regardless of my political lean I'd still say "NO". He has no experience within the intelligence community. He's never been part of the diplomatic corps (i.e., Ambassador). What qualifies him to have a seat on the National Security Counsel?

Was David Axlerod qualified to sit on the NSC?
Another Alt Fact.

He did not, he sat in on a few. And for good reason.

David Axelrod: I woke up this morning as an alternative fact - CNN.com

As a senior adviser to President Obama in 2009, I had the opportunity to witness the fateful deliberations of his National Security Council Principals committee over the strategy the U.S would pursue in the war with Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
I was not a member of the committee. I did not speak or participate. I sat on the sidelines as a silent observer with Gibbs because we would be called upon to publicly discuss the president's decision on that critical matter and the process by which he arrived at it.
We knew our presence chagrined some of the principals but, acting on the president's instructions, we were there to gain a thorough understanding of what would be one of the most important judgments he would make as commander-in-chief.

No. I'll keep this polite:
He's a political advisor. Politics should not enter into national security decisions. I know the reality is different, but Trump going a step farther and removing the chairman of the Joint Chiefs is what pushed the addition of Bannon outside the pale for me.

Trump has his Chief of Staff, that is more than enough. Bannon brings nothing but base politics to the decision making process.
Trump bringing him to the WH will have disastrous results.
