Call it 'Smunday': Heinz pushing to make Super Bowl Monday a national holiday | Fox News

Kraft Heinz Co. is calling an audible, giving its U.S. employees the day off following the Super Bowl, and pushing for the rest of America to declare the day a national holiday.Millions of people call in sick or don't show up for work the day after the most-watched football game of the year, and Heinz suggests making that day "Smunday" -- a work holiday for all Americans.

Really? Really???

No. F*ck the Superbowl.

I wouldn't turn down a paid day off. ;)

IF we are to have another national holiday, it must be election day ..tied in with veterans day ... and along with election reform/revolution .
Forget about the silly super bowl .

I'm guessing that's where most employees will fall.

However, if you want the day off, just take a vacation day.

Some companies offer employees a floating day. That could be used too.

The idea of a national holiday for the day after a sporting event just seems insanely silly.

Why?

Then what do you do about Stanley Cup finals? World Series Finals? NBA finals?

It's easier for the Super Bowl because it's one game, harder for series. We can take the Stanley Cup off though, given that Hockey is the greatest sport ever invented and the epitome of human sports achievement.

I'm all for it. It would give us all the opportunity to have a massive protest march in Boston every year.

No thanks, there are much better causes that would warrant a Holiday than a spectator sport with no national significance.

Holidays have costs, use your own leave if you really need the day.

On this I can surely agree.

Just throw Brady into a pool. The massive number of super bowl rings he has will assuredly result in his drowning.

It's just 4 wins. I was kind of surprised because it sure feels like it's been more than that. This will be NE's 7th Super Bowl since 2002 but they only have 4 wins.

Do you get rings for AFC/NFC championships?

Damn, that means after this superbowl, Brady will have enough rings for an entire hand. He should have them made into some ridiculous gauntlet.

No sillier than employers giving Christmas day off - not everyone is a Christian or believes Jesus was born on that date. How about New Years day....so a new year starts on that day but a holiday?....how about Good Friday.....MLK day....Presidents day...and so on. Not all holidays apply to all people but many if not most companies offer these paid time off days as part of employee benefits in addition to earned vacation time. Sure...I agree Smunday is a silly reason but hey...paid time off is not a bad thing from an employee perspective.

I voted other. I am all for superbowl monday being a national holiday so I support it. But I do have to wonder what other ideas have been turned down and I feel there are other more important days like voting day which I would also support.
