How important is it to have a replacement for Obamacare prior to repeal?

Should the repeal of Obamacare be delayed until we see what the new program would be? Or, should we proceed full-speed ahead?

It depends on what the aims are. If the aim is simply to repeal the ACA in order to hurt Obama's legacy then no replacement is required. If the goal is to protect some of our most vulnerable citizens then it's somewhat important. One thing I've noticed is that people still aren't going out of their way to inform themselves about how insurance works.

Once "free" federal money is being dispensed (the "best" part of PPACA?) then it is always important to keep doing it. ;)

Critically important. I'm no fanboy of Obamacare. I'm self employed and pay $1,500/month for a family of four and don't qualify for subsidies. Which is fine, I can afford it. But I don't like it. But there are millions of people who need Obamacare who do get those subsidies and wouldn't be able to afford good heath insurance without it. I'll be the first to give the Republicans a big kudos if they come up with something better than Obama. But you can't leave those families hanging in the interim.

Extremely important. With no replacement plan, 19 million people are going to lose their insurance. That's a pretty big problem.

This has always been my problem with efforts to repeal Obamacare. I've never particularly liked the program, but I've never heard any of the people advocating repeal offer a better alternative.

And why is that?

I'm sorry. Let me rephrase that. People with empathy can't leave those families hanging. :)

So your empathy somehow obligates me to pay for their healthcare?

Damn the torpedoes!! Full speed ahead!

The sooner we ****can that Obamacare crap, the sooner people can get back to controlling their own lives.

The ACA was an unconstitutional piece of horse manure foisted on tax paying Americans in a back-room deal by a democrap controlled House. Bart Stupak sold his soul and then mysteriously evaporated into thin air. Nobody, including Bella Pelosi and her cadre of butt boys, even knew what was in it. It was a power play pushed by none other than our most recent failed POSOTUS Barry Sartoro. It's time to STOP romanticizing it. It's time for all the lazy "scale-tippers" to go out and find a job and buy some skin in the game.

There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

My cynicism, which steers me in the right direction more often than not, tells me that the real goal is to hurt Obama's legacy, and not to improve the health care system.

If the Republicans actually do come up with a better plan, then my cynicism will be wrong. If they don't, then, once again, cynicism rules the day.

There ain't no such thing as the federal government giving up a power that it granted to itself either.

It hasn't been important for six years to GOP voters that there was no replace because Obama.

Let's see if mcconnell and trump are that stupid .

I'm going to play devil's advocate here.

If it is repealed, with no replacement, and these people lose their insurance, wouldn't they just go back to what they had before? Which is nothing.

In some cases that would suck, in some cases they'd save a buttload of money.

Do you use 18,000 dollars of medical care in a year?

Well I've said many times it will never actually be "repealed" but if by some unlikely case it is. It would be absolutely critical to have a replacement unless people simply don't care about healthcare or people suffering etc. Without a replacement, what, 20+ million people could lose thier healthcare or coverage for many issues. That is meaningless to some people though.

the federal government really has no business doing this in the first place.

It needs to be replaced with something better.
