Was just reading an interesting article about sex robots:

Sex robots: Experts debate the rise of the love droids - BBC News

But while that's an interesting read, it goes into a alot more things than I want to explore here, so after it I pondered, would people be ok with the idea of Sex Robots at all.

Let's say for example, you and your partner were going to be separated for a year lets say, you would not want to cheat, or have an affair, or use the sexual services of a prostitute, but the option of a sex robot as a sexual surrogate in the mean time was an option...

Would you use it?

Would you consider it cheating on the part of your partner?

I don't think it's a matter of if, it's a matter of when this kind of thing will be available to us and I am extremely torn on this, the idea of sex robots is not offensive to my sensibilities at all, but, to be brutally crude, the idea of a human like robot specifically designed for that purpose, would I be comfortable with it banging my wife while I'm away... I'm just not sure I would.

I myself may not use them but I'm ok with the idea of them and others choice to use them or not

Again I don't know if I would use it but if my partner did it's would bother me anymore than any other sex toy. As long as it didn't seem like an obsession and healthy I wouldn't care.

Hahaha sorry just funny reading the way you put that. Well that's the beauty of it. To each their own but I certainly just see it has masterbation. It's a personal question you do not have to answer of course but since you broke the ise do you frown upon your wife masterbating? If you don't why do you see this as any different?
 
I don't know. I certainly wouldn't have a problem with my wife watching porn or using a vibrator/dildo. But a full robot? Maybe if it was made in my likeness. :) But still, I think it would weird me out. I'm not sure why. I wouldn't consider it cheating, though. Just creepy.

We have to be honest with ourselves, as uncomfortable as it may be, because the other issue is that, we humans aren't exactly immune from becoming extremely self conscious about ourselves, because these things would be built, specifically for this purpose, imagine if it provided more pleasure than we could ever hope to, a lot more, I can't see men reacting very well to that whole idea, especially if they become super realistic.

Which, this now goes a bit beyond what I wanted the scope of the thread to be about, but it could very well, for many, men and women simply preferring the robots to real human partners.

Well everybody is different but there is no replacement for real human skin on skin contact, NONE, but that's me I can't speak for everyone. IMO if a partner can be "replaced" by a machine or a machine is "preferred" then that person doesn't LOVE their partner. But again, that's my feelings.

Your feelings are perfectly valid in the context of this discussions, I really do believe society will have an interesting time grappling with this issue, but having said that there's something else that comes to mind, my brother did a thing about Uber and Airbnb and how, it's so interesting to think that society has actually changed quite a bit, for so many people to be comfortable with saying, cool, I'm just going to jump in this random persons car, or stay at this random persons house that I don't know.

Perhaps people down the line will not see it as a big deal at all, and be able to detect the fakeness of these machines, because most humans really do crave genuine companionship and meaningful relationships.
