Is Trump More Cowardly Than Obama?

Is Trump more of a chicken than Obama?

I don't think it's so much a matter of the technology being compromised as it is a matter, or so I've read, of the technology being widely commercially available and related to things like monitoring water temperatures and salinity levels and things like that.

So not an "armed" drone or a "spy" drone but something any coastal weatherman would have somewhere in his stable.

Basically Trump's response is along the lines of, "Pffffttt. You think something trifling like that is going to ruffle my feathers. LULZ. Keep the damn drone you knuckleheads, come back and talk to me when you want to play in the big leagues."
I would agree that that's what he thought he was conveying. What he really conveyed is, "Oh yeah?!? Well... just... keep it! We didn't want that stupid drone, anyway. We have more. There, see how tough I am?"

Well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

And likewise, the comment I made that you were responding to, was merely my opinion.

And I suspect we're both being a little flippant about things.

But what I do not see is how Trump's tweet telegraphs anything especially "weak".

Whether it's bluster or petulance, it's not cowardly given the situation in full context.

I think his recognition of Taiwan sends a much tougher message to China than this silly little incident does.

Given both incidents, and taken in sum, Trump is being much tougher with China than either of his two recent predecessors have been, and he doesn't even have his finger on the "Deploy The Carriers And Subs" or the "Propose Tariffs On Chinese Imports" buttons yet.

I wouldn't say "weak", but I would say inexperienced and out of his realm. With a little bit of juvenile petulance thrown in just to make it entertaining.

Now, he may grow into it, beats me. I hope he does well because I want us as a country to do well, but the fact that he's still a great big man-child at 70 years old does not speak well for that.

Personally, I would like to see us toughen up regarding Taiwan. Question is: Is he the man to do it, or will he go too far?

Trump has been up China's butt this entire election cycle. This is just a continuation.

IMO, China is dreading dealing with Trump and will be forced to use other tactics.

This is the explanation that most resonates with me. I suspect that Trump is playing head games with China, and taking advantage of not being President yet to do so, in order to pave the way for tough negotiations.

If djt loses his reelection bid in 2020, he'll be fine with his successor tweeting throughout the transition, acting like he's already POTUS, and interfering in ongoing domestic and foreign affairs .

Wait. They stole the drone. That was correct. Then he found out they were going to return it? Okay. He said keep it. We have to assume the technology's been compromised.

So what's your point?

My understanding is that it's more about the principle and the cost of the equipment than the secrecy of the technology.

LOL its a Ralph Wiggum quote.

BTW - for what incredibly little it is worth. My favorite SImpsons line was from Jacques (the bowler who almost bedded Marge);

In a french accent 'Throw. THROW DAMN YOU!!!'

And this vid is funny as well, I thought.

Yes, some want to institute socialism.

So do some on the 'right'. I know PLENTY of people voted for Trump who are on SS and Medicare. And to supplement their fixed incomes some get food stamps. They are life long Republicans... Yet they have no intentions on ever giving up their Medicare, SS or FS's. They take it with both hands. Gasp!!! My very right wing, they hate Obama's guts inlaws happily are on ACA. Saves them BIG money.

So are they your enemies too?

That's because they PAID for them, genius! I hear this bull**** meme all the time. "Why don't you give up your SS if you want smaller govt?" Why don't you stop taking the money out of my paycheck??

LOL.. They paid for their Food Stamps? No.. They paid for the MILLIONS of Medicare my Father In-law has already racked up, and will rack up more because he insists on visiting Wendy's 1-2 times a week to get a double bacon cheeseburger even though he's 150 lbs overweight and has a bad heart? No... They paid for ACA? (they get subsidies) No. I know plenty on the right who happily live off the government.

It's socialism, pure and simple. These people are LIFE LONG REPUBLICANS who are using socialist programs and who take with BOTH HANDS! So again: You hate the people on the right who practice socialism?

Wait. Are YOU defending SS? ;)

I found the tweet sort of unexpected and interesting. I don't think it was likely meant as weakness but more as he thinks the U.S. has more leverage, and if they want to steal a little submarine go ahead. i think it was likely a threat by Trump.

So what's your point?

That Trump is saying its okay for thieves to keep what they stole?

Well, sure. He's Trump, ya know. Better than the Great and Wonderful Oz.

I'm defending the right to collect on something I've paid for. Frankly I think we shouldn't have it, and return the tax dollars to the people. That would be most unliberal.

I, for one, paid into SS and Medicare... Big Deal... Have gotten back many more times what I paid into it. It's welfare by a different name. I have also paid taxes so that others can benefit from the ACA... It's how the rest of the world works it, more or less. Bout time we joined them.

Three big essential programs... All brought to us by democrats and opposed by republicans, (Reagan famously said we'd lose our freedom under Medicare) tho a minority in the GOP voted for the first two programs. 20-30 years from now, the ACA will persist in some form or another, (Trumpcare?) and will be as much a part of America as the post office. And conservatives will accept it, albeit with a minority still trying to go back to a time before Roosevelt... Teddy, not Franklin.

Like it or not, Obama changed GOP policy, which used to be "we have the best health care system in the world"; now it's "repeal and replace."

So Trump calls out the Chinese (on twitter) after they steal a drone belonging to the USN. But right after there is news that the Chinese will return the drone,Trump tweets that it's okay for them to keep it.

Many people voted for Trump because they thought Obama was weak. But doesn't Trump's recent actions reveal that he is even weaker than Obama?

We may not have to worry about it much longer. Trump just announced he's draining the swamp to fill it with more nukes. Putin doesn't seem to be reacting to that very well.

They stole it? I thought they recovered it? Of course, if the Russians had gotten it, Trump would have said, " Here, take another one." :)

It's hard to define weakness or being weak. Perhaps one seen as being weak is actually prudent. I don't know how to take Trump, so I am in a wait and see mode with him. No judgement until he actually starts to govern. With Obama, I have disagree with him on some of his responses and thought others were appropriate. I wouldn't call Obama a weak president, just some differences in how he handles some things.

Then again how one views these thing may depend on rather one is a war hawk or a peace dove. I think one should be closer to the middle.

I'm betting you never returned a dime of your SS check to the government.

Is Trump More Cowardly Than Obama?

I dunno.

Grab his puss - er - crotch and see what he does.
