The past year has been a particularly contentious election cycle, culminating in a brutally contested election result with some claiming ballot box tampering on one side and up to three million illegally cast votes on the other. Therefore I have some modest proposals to increase the integrity of the electoral system in preparation for the upcoming 2018 election. All of these proposals would be specifically aimed to eliminate the possibility of illegal aliens or other non-US citizens from voting. Please read carefully and vote.

1. All people with firearms would need to supply certifications for newly performed Federal and State background checks. The certificates would need to be less than a week old in order to mitigate the chances that illegal aliens forged them so they could vote in the election. The newly performed checks would also have the bonus of catching felons with warrants for their arrest as well as finding and deporting illegal aliens before they even reached the polling stations.

2. All polling stations would be relocated to major urban centers so they would have full technical and emergency support. Rural areas frequently lack internet, phone, and police and medical access in the event of an emergency. This would, again, provide the opportunity catch illegal aliens who attempt to vote and throw the election toward their preferred candidate.

3. Voters over 69 are frequently using absentee ballots due to being too infirm to travel, but there's little way to make certain that these people are properly registered. Therefore, the city would provide free bussing to polling stations. All other necessary assistance would be provided free of charge.

4. Eliminate the military absentee ballot. In 2016 seventeen million non-US citizens voted illegally in the election using the military absentee ballot. This has effectively canceled out the votes of our brave and honorable servicemen. Instead of the absentee ballot, all servicemen would have one day to vote at a polling station in person while in rotation back to the United States.

5. Evangelical Protestant and Mormon churches as well as their attendees would need to supply proof of their 501(c)(3) status. Again, in order to prevent illegal immigrants from voting.

Re: A modest proposal for eliminating election fraud

probably ninety five percent of "voter fraud" pissing and moaning from either side roughly translates to "i see a strategy to suppress the other team's vote so that my team has a better chance of winning." therefore, though this is obviously not a serious proposal, i vote no.

Re: A modest proposal for eliminating election fraud

None of the above.

No invasive background checks. A standard photo ID and/or birth certificate is fine.

No moving polling to urban centers (making it difficult for rural citizens to vote).

No free bussing for citizens over 69 to polling stations. If they are active enough they can get there themselves, if not, they can vote mail-in.

No eliminating the military absentee ballot, soldiers don't lose their right simply because they are overseas.

The system can be improved in other ways, although anything designed by humans is bound to be faulty...it's just the nature of human beings.

Are you suggesting that rural people are too lazy to vote, or that people with guns have criminal backgrounds?

Okay I see where this is going... ;)

Can we have just one thread that doesn't devolve into partisan sniping for a change? Please? Thank you.

Not only "none of the above", but "your list is probably unconstitutional".

1. What the hell does gun ownership have to do with voting? This point is rejected.

2. LOL!! Can you imagine the ACLU and NAACP brouhaha this would create? Just think of all those minority rural residents you are discriminating against. This point is rejected.

3. Anyone who is physically unable to get to a polling place should be able to apply for a mail-in ballot. Any other "solution" is unnecessary and too costly. This point is rejected.

4. Unconstitutional. Military members are Americans, too. If there's a problem, work to prevent that problem...don't throw the baby out with the bath water. This point is rejected.

5. What about Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc? Or do you just have a thing against Evangelical Protestants and Mormons? Besides, what connection do these churches have with illegal aliens? This point is rejected.

I've seen you post some asinine stuff here, Cardinal...but this one takes the cake.

Rejected!

Re: A modest proposal for eliminating election fraud

No Vote.

I would suggest to take DNA from all people at birth and use this for identification for the rest of your life. This will solve the identifications issues.
As soon as you have confirmed your ID and you have made your vote, your vote will be pass over three separate counting systems that work identical (In the way the count the votes with the result being the total vote of course.) These systems work identical but are different systems from different companies to avoid design errors. All this info is passed over a nation wide private communication network (read; no physical connection to the internet) and centrally collected. From here the votes will be collected and made public instantly or at a given time after the election has finished.

Sounds like a fairly safe way of voting or at least a good staring point.

In addition to this there is also a different kind of fraud. If you take fraud in a slightly wider context one could say that willingly spreading false information with the intention of influencing an election is also fraudulent behaviour and would therefore be fraud as well. And to tackle this is not so easy and has nothing to do with the actual voting system itself.

Every politician would then be accused of fraud for spreading or making false statements of the other candidates. It would be impossible to police that. However, I kind of like your DNA idea accept for the fact that everyone would have to be in a DNA database which could theoretically be hacked into and people could also use the database for other nefarious purposes not having to do with voting.

Yeah, you're probably right about that hacking stuff, but it sure sound a lot more complicated to compromise a DNA database with the purpose of influencing the vote without anyone ever finding out about it compared to the way it is now.

yeah it appears to be a bait thread aimed at conservative voters. when in reality, vote fraud tends to be a liberal proclivity. The Conservative counterpart is making it harder for those with low intellects, ambitions or competency to vote.

Re: A modest proposal for eliminating election fraud

I've been hearing for years and years that there is no voting fraud. Given that I have been expected to accept that, why should I be concerned now?

1. It's another avenue for making sure illegal aliens aren't able to vote. I don't see this being a difficult hurdle for gun owners, unless you're suggesting gun owners are stupid. I do not hold that belief.
2. Rural people identify as self sufficient, so again, this is not a problem. Unless you're suggesting that rural voters are not, in fact, self sufficient?
3. I said the bussing to a polling station is free of charge. Personally, I don't like the idea of their votes being cancelled out by illegal aliens.
4. I take offense to the notion that our servicemen are too lazy to vote upon rotation back to the United States. Shame on you.
5. Your attack on Catholics, Jews and Muslims is unwarranted, as is your implication that Evangelical Protestants and Mormons are not legally able to vote.

Re: A modest proposal for eliminating election fraud

Who on Earth do you think illegal immigrants vote for?

In November, illegal Mexican aliens and foreigners in terrorist nations took advantage of a myriad of loopholes in order to vote illegally:

1. 10 million illegal Mexican gun owners with warrants out for their arrest voted.
2. 21 million Muslims who overstayed their visas took advantage of the poor oversight in rural communities, quite possibly voting for Clinton.
3. The same lack of oversight exists in retirement communities, thereby allowing 13.4 million illegal aliens voting for Clinton.
4. 17 million foreigners used the absentee military ballot, completely overwhelming and canceling out the votes of our brave and honorable servicemen.
5. Illegal Mexican immigrants were able to hide out in Evangelical Protestant and Mormon churches. If they had been forced to supply newly refurbished 501(c)(3) certificates, 4 million of their votes would not have been counted.
