We've had a few polls asking who will win, but now I ask: When will we know?

For context, the last few presidential elections were called at:
2012--around 11:20 ET that night
2008--right at 11
2004--not until the next day
2000--yeah, we all remember how that turned out

Also, 11 PM ET is when the West Coast's polls close.

I don't care. I just want it over and done with already.

9:30 or when they call Florida for Hillary

Yep if Hillary wins Florida, its over. If by some miracle, Florida is called early for Trump and he wins there easily, he will probably win enough other states to win the election. Actually you will be able to tell by late afternoon before the polls even close. The media gets exit poll results early and don't release them right away. If everyone on MSNBC is glum and worried, you know Hillary is in trouble. Same with Fox. If they all have long faces, you will know Trump is doomed. Just watch Maddow. If she is smiling and giggling like a school girl, put your money on Hillary. If she is long faced and worried, get your passport ready ;)

When Trump accepts the results.

If by some miracle

Allow me to credit you for more or less accepting the inevitability of a Frump defeat. I've known I was gonna lose in years past ('72 and '84) and it wasn't a happy time. And hey, I figure I'll be just about as dissatisfied with Hellory as you will. She's a decent administrator from my perspective, but she doesn't have the popularity needed to really get things done. Besides, slow and steady may be the best approach.

Different this time: Get Ready for an 'Unprecedented Election Day Experiment'

Since neither one will get to 270, this will be drawn out until the House votes for Gary Johnson.

Fortunately there is no requirement that he does.

Correct. Nor is there a requirement that you stand for the national anthem; that you thank those that give you gifts; that the bride's family pays for dinner at the wedding reception; that you excuse yourself from a table or an event you must leave early from; or that you apologize if your car hits the neighbor's dog. Then again, these are things we come to expect in a polite society.

The tradition of the loser conceding the election to the victor is a very important element in the peaceful transition of power in our democracy. It is not only a deep American tradition that is done to honor the will of the voter, it is an essential acknowledgment of how our system of government actually works. To do anything less is not only childish, it is disrespectful to our way of life and thus to Americans everywhere.

The EC will announce the verdict (opps, I think I meant, results) on January 6th, but yes the winner will be announced tomorrow evening based on the popular vote.

We know how it was meant to work. This year we have seen how it really works. And Hillary as president is the biggest disrespect to Americans I can see.

If Hillary wins the White House, it means there are more that want her than want the other guy. That is something all need to come to grips with and all need to respect. To do otherwise is disrespectful to the majority and therefore, disrespectful to America.

**** the majority, seriously.

I'm gonna go with at about 11 p.m. But I have no idea, except it looks close. Most of the battlegrounds will be counted before 11. If they fall for one or the other, that would enable the race to be called....maybe.

Ah, hell...I have no idea! Fasten your seatbelts...it's gonna be a rocky night!

Not necessarily. It's possible to win the electoral votes but lose the popular vote. George W Bush, 2000.

I suspect you are correct that both MSNBC and FOX will give us the heads up just as you describe.

Someone will get 270.

She is walking(sometimes) disrespect. I cannot respect a thoroughly corrupt person. Nobody should.

She's to be your president. You are respecting the office and institution of the Presidency and the Constitution of the United States. You are part of "We the People", in victory and in defeat. As part of the people, we agree to ELECT our leaders and for all to respect the outcome of the election.

You would expect her supporters to recognize Trump as their president, had that happened. Give respect; you get respect. Give no respect;you get no respect.

I wouldn't give her a glass of water, not that she drinks water, if she was dying of thirst. She is a criminal and a traitor.

I think it's going to be called early if Trump does NOT win Florida and North Carolina. If he wins one or the other, it may be a long night. But without those two states, he has no path to 270, and then we can sit back and giggle like hyenas because we don't have to see his snarling orange puss anymore. At least I hope we don't.

Went with later but not really sure tbh, I can't see them calling it before 11 since they'd get so much **** for "affecting the result." Though the media has a serious case of impatience these days so who knows for sure. Plus the fact the 11pm ones are all likely voting democrat makes it possible they go before.

Can't see it much later then 11 though unless it is really close. Considering 04 and 12 both went past 11 bodes well for this going past 11 as well. I don't think it's quite a blowout due to how unliked both candidates are.

Well, to all those that were wondering. The election was called roughly around 12:15am 11/9/2016. Donald Trump won. Not only did he get the 270 EV needed but he also got the popular vote by almost a million votes. Hillary even conceded moments before that time.

Now all that needs to be decided is if the Election Night results are actually right. This really was a close election and frankly I don't think we'll know for sure until sometime today. Unless it gets even closer in which case Hillary will probably withdraw her conceding and try and get some recounts. Then it may take longer. Kind of a Bush/Gore remake. But I don't think any of that will happen. I think Trump actually did win. Which has me amazed and in disbelief.

I challenged you to accept the "Will of the People", but you told me you would not. Well, the shoe is on the other foot. So, I am here to tell you the I do accept the Will of the People to elect Donald Trump as my President. While I think we made a terrible choice as I don't believe he can do the job, I nonetheless wish him success.

I am certainly embarrassed that I was wrong in my assertion that there was no way he could be elected. Yesterday I did not want to be wrong on that, as I thought I was right on his incompetence. But, given I was wrong on the former, I now pray that I am wrong on the latter as well.
