A pity you didn't follow it very well, but you are right that we should have done more to remove the mass murderer from the power to perform crimes against humanity on the people he possessed. Instead, we supported the opposition that was being fired at and relied on the neighbours to do, what was necessary. A real pity for the Syrian people. But Obama did not push the neighbors and UN with enough persuasion. Instead, we drew red lines in the sand and let them hang out for the vultures.

But your question is wrong headed. The responsibility to protect is that of every power and especially the UN.

Why are we training terrorists to depose the Syrian government on behalf of ISIS?

Who said we're training terrorists on behalf of ISIS? We've gone out of our way to avoid that scenario. That's not to say that some of these fighters may have defected to jihadist groups, but vetting these fighters is the main reason we spent half a billion dollars training just a handful of people and why we've principally relied on supporting Kurdish fighters as opposed to Sunni Arabs.
