Poor white for sure. I pick that so avidly because I'd have better and more plentiful role models. Most likely a safer neighborhood as well.

I'd like to be green and poor

Think about this, as I am sure you will, but what other things come into play?

Half Creole half Irish. My family got the **** end of the stick on both accounts. Unfortunately the poll would not let me choose both.

I didn't get to choose.

I was born white and poor.
And I busted my ass to make something of myself, and to take very good care of my family.

Things have worked out very well, and no, nobody in my family ever took a dime of public assistance.
We just went to work, we went to night school, and we achieved.

Funny how that can work out sometimes.
:2wave:

My parents were poor when I was born and were upper middle class when I graduated high school, so I stick with the cards I was given which is poor and white.

What if you were born Black and poor? What would the possibilities in life be?

Well being born a poor white in the midst of Zimbabwe does not bode well given the current situation. Can we stipulate the United States?

It is a given.

I wouldn't wan't to be anyone other than myself o_O... rich or poor. It has nothing to do with white or black.

Depends on the parents I managed to get. Just like whites there are blacks that are driven and intelligent and those that are not.

Neither.

I choose a mixed 'race'.

Less racism thrown at me then full 'black'.

But better skin look (permanent tan - age better) and health (little/no chance of skin cancer) then all 'white'.

Halle Berry's skin (for example - and more or less the rest of her as well) seems about perfect to me.

BTW, I am a WASP male.

I was born and raised white and poor. Well not just poor, we spent much of my childhood in poverty. If you didn't know when the utility cutoff dates were by age 5, then you didn't really grow up that poor. ;)

We never took any type of welfare or anything. Mom just worked 2 and 3 jobs to raise us. Today I am upper middle class. That all said, I don't think its harder to be black and in poverty than it is to be white and in poverty. Poverty is poverty, it sucks either way. However, I do think there are more obstacles in front of you when it comes to climbing out of poverty if you are black than if you are white. Either way its very hard, but its even harder when you are black.

Location is not relevant. Made it a simple poll question and asked why.

Location is completely relevant.

Poor black in Detroit is far different than poor black in Sudan.

It is a given.

Even then it is complicated. Poor black with a single hard working mother and some smarts on the kid is different than a poor white kid with a meth head mom and an abusive father...

Not included in the post- White and poor or Black and poor. Pick one and explain.
Kept it simple to avoid these scenarios.

Being born in the US was mentioned earlier.

I'm with Louis on this one.
