he didn't know what the nuclear triad was, nor that Russians had occupied Crimea since 2014. He admittedly "doesn't read much" and "advises himself" on most matters. How can one safely assume that he knows anything specific?

what is funny is that there is a major part of the Hillary fan club that is supporting her mainly because they want another rerun of her husband in the White House. I have had dozens of Hillary supporters telling me stuff Like-Yeah she's a liar but her husband was a great president. Well if your main reason for supporting the lying bitch is that you want her husband back in charge, complaining about Trump's lack of military service is really pretty silly given the machiavellian way Clinton dodged the draft

deferment is not a "draft dodger". I had no use for clinton but he was more manipulative of the process than Trump was and given the criminal incompetence of the US government in VietNam I don't blame people who evaded being wasted in that idiocy that should have resulted in massive impeachments, trials for incompetence and more

I am not as convinced in my own theory after reading some posts and learning some additional information.
But I just thought I should point out that your idea of thinking "Trump had to know what is was to want one", is completely without any merit.
Pretend it was the Silver Star or any other medal awarded for acts of heroism, everyone has a deep down desire to be a hero and everyone would want a medal that told others they are a hero.
If Trump thought the Purple Heart was like the Silver Star, he would want one. Especially with his pompous ego.

Btw, when I was a kid I attended a military school against my will. I sure as heck never knew what a purple heart was, I was too busy trying to get kicked out.
Not trying to compare myself to Trump, I did have "some morals and empathy". But going to military school literally means jack sheet.

Trump just keeps showing he is an insensitive man who have a disconnect between his brain and his mouth that makes him say and do things normal people would know is inappropriate but that he just simply does not seem to be getting.

Your personal experience notwithstanding, he went to a Military Academy. In such Academies you learn military history and of significant awards received, such as the Purple Heart.

The Purple Heart and the Congressional Medal of Honor are likely the most well known awards and the most distinctive in shape. The others, not so much.
Of course he knew what it was.
