The "experts" have been running things thus far. And yes....we are screwed.......sadly the world is a broken place. It seems that in many ways, as a species, that while our technology increases, we turn even further away from pragmatism and sensible behavior and opt more for reactionary and irrational actions.

Yet, science and technology got us into this mess, along side all the progress, and science and technology will be required to solve the issues as we go forward. Those who turn their back on science are turning against our only means of staying ahead of encroaching entropy.

Bravo, Ksu on the inclusion of neither ..
Sadly, this will continue , until the conservatives ''cave in'' and this will be years from now ....

You threw in "science" for some odd reason.....I only mentioned technology. I was primarily referencing social media and the "up-to-the-second", unadulterated, unedited, unfiltered, access to often isolated human behaviors that are retweeted and reposted so many times it makes the uninformed masses believe that these things are "the norm." We've been given too much technology too quickly....we weren't ready. Now we're reaping the impacts. To quote the ever-wise Uncle Ben...."With great power come great responsibility." We haven't been very responsible, have we?

This is a simple poll, do you like Statement A or B?

A - I mourn for the officers shot while doing their sacred duty to protect peaceful protesters, for their families, and all who serve with them.

B -
Last night’s horrific execution-style shootings of 12 Dallas law enforcement officers – five of whom were killed and seven wounded- is an attack on our country. It is a coordinated, premeditated assault on the men and women who keep us safe. We must restore law and order. We must restore the confidence of our people to be safe and secure in their homes and on the street.
The senseless, tragic deaths of two people in Louisiana and Minnesota reminds us how much more needs to be done. This morning I offer my thoughts and prayers for all of the victims’ families, and we pray for our brave police officers and first responders who risk their lives to protect us every single day. Our nation has become too divided. Too many Americans feel like they’ve lost hope. Crime is harming too many citizens. Racial tensions have gotten worse, not better. This isn’t the American Dream we all want for our children. This is a time, perhaps more than ever, for strong leadership, love and compassion. We will pull through these tragedies.

Multiple choices are possible.

For those who don't know.

A. Is Clinton

B. Is Trump.

Stop Trying to bait people...

Technology will continue to advance and ordinary people will at some point have access to it in one form or another. It's been that way for several centuries now. So we have cars, guns, mobile phones, radio, TV and any number of technologies which selfish, unscrupulous, dishonest people can and will abuse. I don't know that we got them to soon as much as that we got them at all, human nature being what it is. Some portion of the population will always act irresponsibly with just about anything you can think of.

BTW, I mentioned science because science is what makes technology possible. If you like I could just say that technology got us into this mess and technology will be required to solve it's attendant negative consequences. Either that or take away people's right in a free society to use the technologies. Praying and mourning will not accomplish anything of meaningful impact on the problem. Cellphones and modern media exist and will not go anywhere soon. The mob mentality which can engender violence will not go anywhere soon.

Neither.

Statement A just barely makes sense, and I hardly think they were performing a sacred duty.

Statement B is so much hyperbole it makes my head spin.

The inherent problem is that no science nor knowledge of the discipline is required to USE that technology.
"I'll tell you the problem with the scientific power that you're using here, it didn't require any discipline to attain it. You read what others had done and you took the next step. You didn't earn the knowledge for yourselves, so you don't take any responsibility for it. You stood on the shoulders of geniuses to accomplish something as fast as you could, and before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now...." - Dr. Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum, Jurassic Park)

Incidentally, comparing todays technology (interwebz, social media, mass communication, micro-cameras, mass transit, nukes, satellites, super-sonic jets, drones, sub-machine guns, magnetic strip scanners, etc.) to the technology of 100 or even 50 years ago is grossly unfair and you seem to be smart enough to know that. There's a big difference between giving someone a black and white television versus giving them access to instant world-wide communication.
