Why is Trump *really* running for President?

Why is Trump really running for President?

That's a reasonable supposition, I think.

But I still doubt he ever perceived how wildly popular he'd become.

Now if he did, well then he really is genius.

I suspect he was the most surprised. It got serious when he had to fire his campaign manager; then he was IN it.

That came from his days as a Hillary supporter. We all know that the birther movement was started by her supporters. And we all know that he was a big Hillary supporter in 2008. He was probably the original birther.

Among the many ideas that have come to me, the idea that Trump may have set out to help her by slopping up the primaries as he did at the beginning. Now that he has it, he needs to re aim, and we'll see what he has to say about her.

He loves Hillary, and has for years. But he doesn't love her enough to give up that shot at the Lincoln Bedroom.

Yep, he almost lost it all there at that inflection point.

I did respect him for that, in that he showed he could react quickly in identifying a problem, bring-in outside expertise, and accept the expertise' recommendation and implement the change(s). That's a good quality to have as a President.

Good or bad, most politicians have a functioning political philosophy.

Most politicians' "functioning political philosophy" equals "tell the people what they want to hear".

Trump has zero political experience, speaks with the eloquence of a particularly uneducated rock, seems to possess no political philosophies, what he does believe appears to be influenced by what he had for breakfast, and he frigging dominates the "pants on fire" page on Politifact. And finally, he's fragmenting the GOP and giving them the worst pr job in modern history. What's your favorite pet theory for why he's truly running for president?

The thing that always gets me about him is how unstructured his sentences are. He sounds like an idiot trying to have his mind catch up to his words.

That is where he, in a way, sold out. The Donald who set out on this quest would have abased the journalists with a "get over it". In replacing him, Trump did what a professional, or "establishment" politician would do. Now watch, as the amazing Donald modifies his 'demands', first to go will be an absolute ban on all Muslims. He's going to start talking about exemptions and such, but not on the stump, in interviews etc. with the liberal media.

Next to be downsized will be "the wall" and how it will be financed, and that will be modified to a form of tax on employers of illegals.

By election day the only thing separating him and Hilary will be where is the zipper on their pants

Perhaps.

He's going to do & say whatever it takes to win, no doubt.

But once in office, he might deviate significantly from HRC. Might. We'll see.

Perhaps.

But for some of us that talk fast, and are often in fast-talking circles, this plays-off as appearing authentic and direct - and not pre-staged.

It is quintessential New Yorker IMO, and is common in some areas of my large American city.

I am a fast talker but unlike he I just trip up words... he does this strange unstructured thought process where he makes an unclear point and then comes back to it ... tough to explain. Anyway.. I can follow him fine, it just sounds unstructured and sloppy.

He's also the one that said that we should build a ****ing wall between the US and Mexico, and somehow make them pay for it.

By banning remittance payments until they do so. They'll listen to that threat.

Who gives a **** how he thinks he's going to have them pay for it?! The entire idea of a giant wall between the US and Mexico is just plain unrealistic, and is never ever, ever, ever going to happen. Even if Trump actually becomes POTUS, there's no way in hell that the Wall of Trump would ever be built.

Just like the giant wall surrounding Israel is unrealistic?

He probably started off just wanting to **** with us, then things got weird.....

I am convinced he got the idea when he forced Obama to release his birth certificate.

Let's not forget his "birther" roots

I've heard Obama burned him publicly over the birther thing at a press corp dinner, and Trump tried to play it off but was clearly upset.

The local AM talkers are convinced that when he decided to run.
