Who would you vote for?

It could inspire young women all over the country with the dream that they to might marry the right guy and ride his coat tails to great success.

In reality is would inspire young women that they can achieve anything they want with the proper education and drive and that their goals will not be limited by their gender.

I agree.

Furthermore, two identical candidates would have to also be of the same sex, because female and male brains work differently. As such, it would seem that their views would have to be at least slightly different.

I refuse to believe that you don't understand the point of "all things being equal" questions.

Did you have similer dificulties the last time someone asked "all things being equal, should children be placed with a straight couple or a gay couple for adoption"?

It's because I see this as a very simple question that I feel like your doing everything in your power to not answer the question.

If both leaders are equally capable of leading the country then does it really matter who we choose?

I forgot to answer earlier.

If all things are equal, then I would vote for the woman based off the fact that we haven't had a woman president.

It's not so much that I'm trying to avoid the question, but rather that I am not sure what my answer would be, so I am attempting to find a difference (other than their sex) between the two imaginary candidates so that I can choose one.

Then again, I did already answer this question; it just was after the sentence you quoted.

Regarding your question as to what difficulties I would have with a question of "all things being equal, should children be placed with a straight couple or a gay couple for adoption"?

I would say if there was a choice, it would be best that the child be placed with a female/male couple. My opinion.

And see there's nothing wrong with voting for a woman for the novelty.

There's nothing sexist about that at all, so don't let anyone tell you so in the future ;)

I was refering to reality. You guys are refering to the hypothetical presented in the poll.

Suppose you are voting in a primary.

Suppose your party has 2 candidates who are equally qualified in every way.

Suppose you agree with each candidate’s politics and ideals, that those politics and ideals are the same between the 2 candidates.

Suppose one is a man, the other is a woman.

Who would you vote for?
If the only difference is gender (a practical impossibility incidentally,) then I'd need more information, namely what office are they running for?

This would be most important if the position involved military decisions, such as in the presidency.

While individuals vary of course, there tend to be differences in that way men and women think.

A military choice can involved inflicting pain and destruction, and the loss of life, cruelty and a willingness to be utterly blind to the suffering of others.

Obviously a woman has a problem here.

In other words, a man would know when to stop!

The woman. It's bizarre that a governmental body meant to identify the needs of all our citizens is so heavily biased in favour of the middle class male variety, and of course because white, middle class men make up the majority of government, their interests are over-represented at the national level. Having a government more representative of the population at large means more equal consideration of the issues that affect all of society, and not just those issues that affect the priveleged few.

If the mother in law was my ex's - I would vote for the candidate that peed her off most, if I marry my current long term girlfriend and this was absolutely "Ceteris Paribus" I would probably end up not voting at all as I wouldn't be able to choose.

This is a simple question that people are making more difficult than needed.

If they are both exactly equal except for gender the answer for me is easy.

Men have lead this country for a few hundred years now, and where has it gotten us?

Time for women to have a chance.
It couldn't possibly get worse could it?

(please, please, please don't read any of that as an endorsement for Hillary....I'm not a Hillary supporter at all.....)

If their politics and policies are exactly equal why would their gender make a difference in the direction they take the country?

If you didn't understand her extremely straightforward explanation the first time (in the post you just quoted), then I doubt you'll understand it if she explains it again.

You know?

The woman, for the same reason as Anima and Dragonfly (and possibly others; I didn't read the whole thread).
To throw another brick through the plate-glass window of patriarchy.

If they were truly equally qualified in every way, they would be equally effective in getting things done. It would be irrational to choose one over the other, except perhaps by leaving it up to chance. Like a coin toss or something.

If we lived in a society where systematic sexual discrimination didn't exist, a society without a patriarchal, male-dominated power structure, I'd agree with you.

Unfortunately, there is no society like that on earth, nor has there ever been.
Yet.

If their position is exactly the same, they won't be taking the country in any different direction. Nothing will change except the gear between their legs. Gender is a stupid reason to vote for someone.

10 you're education's showing.

So is yours, and it's apparently decidedly inferior to mine.
Even I know when not to use a contraction and when to use a possessive pronoun.

No, it's easy to read that statement as meaning that they're identical in terms of experience and background but not that the fundamental psychological differences between men and women have been removed as well.

I'd vote for a woman just because we haven't seen what would would do.

It's not necessarily a left/right issue, Maggie Thatcher was a nazi.
