Meh. It was their call to make.

It would only be WRONG if the government compelled them.

I personally would have held a grudge if they kept it on and blurred the flag, but even that would have been their call.

I never was a superfan, but I did have Duke's of Hazard lunch box.

At the age of 8 Daisy Duke was my son's first love.

Whether it's an overreaction or not, it is a 37 year old show so who cares?

Good evening, Vesper. :2wave:

How are you doing? I've been in and out on here a lot lately because of having to travel back and forth to NC, and haven't seen you post much. I miss talking with you - you always have such interesting things going on in your life! *hug* Did you notice Beaudreaux is back?

Thank you Pol. I will P.M. you tomorrow. Hope you had a great 4th.

Is TV Land's decision to stop airing Dukes of Hazard an over-reaction to the Confederate flag debate?

Personally, I never liked the show. I always thought it was dumb, and I was in the prime demographic when it was new. That being said, it'll be interesting to see if it comes back after the dust settles over the Confederate flag issue.

Note: This thread is regarding the pulling of the show only, not the overall flag issue in general. We already have other threads for that. Please use those threads if you want to debate that.
Not an over reaction, but a calculated move to boost ratings.

One of my fondest memories as a child was watching that show. Loved it so much I played Dukes of Hazard on the playground. Jumping from the jungle jim like the car was jumping over that gap in the bridge. Or jumping out of the swing set for the same reason. Or just staying in the swing speeding away from Roscoe and/or Einus(sp?). It was a great show and I still think about it at times. The ONLY time I didn't like the DoH was when they made that movie a few years ago. It imo made a mockery of the real DoH. The Duke Boys were not about getting laid every chance they got and they certainly didn't try to make love to the General Lee. Hopefully Netflix will put the episodes on one of these days so I can watch em all again. :)

It was an unbelievably silly decision made for an incredibly ludicrous reason.

The show was never remotely about racism.

We need to protest on the Capital steps, to bring Daisy Duke back!!!!!!

Are they available on DVD? That might be an option. Maybe a better option if the PC goes too far and not even Netflix will touch it in the future. IOW, get it while you can.

Maybe. But i don't think so. Believe it was done out of a fear of losing ratings. By getting labeled as racist if they continued broadcasting the show.

Which is different.

It's one of the stupidest decisions I've seen that involves that flag.

Major overreaction. And yes, it is a stupid show. But then again, they still run Gilligan's Island.

And politically correct, given a long enough leash, would turn the entire world a dull gray.

I personally never liked the show... then again, I don't like most tv comedies; they're usually dumb... but to yank an old rerun because of a stupid flag is totally dumb, and has nothing to do with S.C.'s internal debate about displaying a confederate battle flag in publicly-owned areas.

You can just buy the whole set on Amazon for $239. What a bunch of idiots. Or you can buy the season sets for about $20-25 each, which comes out to about $160.

Actually, they might not have tried to get laid any chance they got, but they weren't exactly virtuous. But you are right that the movie was making fun of the show more than anything. (It is interesting how the movie sort of foreshadowed the controversy over the flag, thinking back to the scene where they are driving in Atlanta.)

I just watched the first disc of the first season today. It was one of my favorite shows growing up. I don't have a lot of memories about living in my grandparents' second house, with just my parents, me and my brother, and a baby sister (3rd child, out of eventually 6), but I do remember sitting in front of that huge box TV we had in the living room, watching DoH. I was about 3/4/5.

Oh, and its spelled "Enos", "the oldest virgin in Hazzard county".

Yes. I have them all (or at least had them all, I need to check because I think one of the seasons got misplaced during one of our moves).

Potentially, I never really watched it, but if it wasn't big on total neo-confederacy and is mostly two dudes pissing off a southern sheriff, I don't think pulling it was necessary. They could resell it like Kino does to this day with Birth of a Nation. It's not as if we're begging for that film to be rebroadcast on TCM or AMC.
