The 3rd amendment? Otherwise known as the forgotten amendment or the "red headed stepchild" amendment?

"No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law."

Goodness no. Why would that need repealing?

What brought this on?

I was sitting on the toilette this morning looking at the patterns on the toilette paper and it hit me like a thunderbolt... the 3rd needs to be repealed.

**** no, hell **** no, hell double **** no, hell triple **** sucking mother****ing no.

I could go on and on but I think the point was made.

Are you planning on adding another room onto your van down by the river just for this?

Since the US is in a perpetual state of War the repealing of this Amendment would then allow the US Government to quarter a soldier in every home, every day, indefinitely.

Yeah, I could see how someone would get behind that...

Yes or no?

Thanks for not posting the ****ing amendment for everyone to read!!!!!!!! And what do you care?

While we're at it, I don't like the fact that there's a Governor-General in New Zealand. Let's repeal that. It doesn't matter to me really, but I just want to change someone's constitution.

There is no reason to repeal it. just interpret it to mean whatever you want. I mean are we really ever at peace? and what is peace? I see soldiers stationed in homes to make sure people live according to the aca rules.

You have a point - language and vocabulary can change and does change all the time; sometimes language has meaning sometimes it ceases to have meaning.

Great idea.

Let's start a whole new political movement to remove the bugger. That way we will forget that ISIS draws closer every day, Obamacare is failing, Hillary is lying, NASCAR is boring and the US is in decline.

Let's hurry!

true. what is language? noises a persons body makes to try to control their surroundings. and words are just symbols . letters arranged in a certain order, but why accept words the way other people do? children are taught language and words, but why ? why? words have no meaning. drifting , emptiness

The third amendment is tearing this country apart!

No, the 3rd Amendment is an essential preservation of civil liberties.

New Zealand should abolish the position of governor-general and cut its ties with the monarchy. That is literally a better idea than this.

I would like to think that people who voluntarily elect to spend their free time discussing (primarily American) politics should have a basic knowledge of the Bill of Rights.

Apologies if I accidentally missed some sarcasm.

yeah, but with that one you'd actually have a ca(u)se.

The 3rd amendment is a very useful piece of history. It demonstrates how reactionary our declaration and constitution actually are. Our bicameral system is the result of paranoia from smaller states. Actually, a lot of our system is based on states' inability to get along... But the 3rd amendment was a reaction to a specific action by the British government prior to the war. Soldier quartering was uncommon even then. That we enshrined protection against it as an important right is rather silly. It almost never comes up.

Is it because your number two was also like a number one, therefore adding up to three?

Hell no, why should we spend the time and money it would take to repeal it?

Is it because your number two was also like a number one, therefore adding up to three?

That is too complicated for me to contemplate...

Yes or no?

Why on earth would we do that?

It's just sitting there, doing nothing, not bothering anyone. :D

Besides, if we repeal it there's probably some way it will come back to bite us.
