I can't see any other option, in all honesty. Does ANYBODY actually believe that erasing/losing all Lois's emails is really an honest mistake anymore?

Shouldn't these people lose their jobs?

Shouldn't these people be put in prison?

I know that the IRS wouldn't let us off with an, "ooops, sorry I lost my receipts".

We would be fined or jailed for tax evasion.

Hypocrisy... of course.

There's no reason they can't be considered both therefore I voted other.

Government is inherently inept, not necessarily corrupt though.

I'd have to read more on the IRS to determine whether or not the agency as a whole is simply corrupt.

Inept, however, is a GIVEN.

It's both. You need a "both" option or allow us to check both corrupt and inept.

Seriously?

You need to ask?

Lets see, Illegal spying, illegal harassment of a legal political party, destruction of public property, obstruction of justice and being ugly in a public place.

Oh wait, ah heck, you're an Amerikan liberal, all that is a requirement for membership in the democratic party

 My bad... you are absolutely correct and now I am embarrased.

I was agreeing with you and then I hit the bold and

What?

You should be. This is why we can't have nice things.

I thought that was because I spaz a lot and run into tables, cabinets and old people.

Other.

Not embarrassed in the least.

The answer is "Both".

Corrupt or inept? Yes.

I believe the IRS not only knows exactly what it does, it is very good at it. Hence: Corrupt to the core.

Indeed. The IRS is both corrupt AND inept.

Bod, you certainly don't believe this unicorns and rainbows story from the IRS that they 'lost' those emails, or couldn't find them, do you? (Only to mysteriously be discovered later). Naa. That was all on purpose right along with 2 coworkers (Lois and another) both hard drives crashing the same week.

Coincidence? Well, there are the unicorns and rainbows again.

I am swimming against the tide along with the few who believe the IRS is in no way inept. I think it has proved itself to be extremely efficient and effective with the power given to it and that which it has assumed unconstitutionally and illegally. So I had no problem clicking the 'corrupt' button up there. And I think Americans should be rising up and demanding a nonpartisan and in depth audit of the whole operation and those who have overstepped their authority, along with the politicians who ordered them to do so, should be subject to the full authority and consequences of the law.

The latest thing noted in the more obscure press is that Lois Lerner's hard drive has not only been expunged of information, but it has literally been shredded, and that was done after the latest IRS scandal broke. That is no inept accident. That is deliberate obstruction of justice, destruction of evidence. And Americans should not tolerate that from their government ever.

Would "apathetic" be a better option than "inept"? I don't think they're inept at all. Not even the slightest little bit. But, combine apathy with corruption and we might be onto something.
