While the TPP/TPA/Fast Track debate is currently going on in the House of Representatives I thought I would get opinion of the DP community.

No, and for the same reasons.

All we are talking about is a mechanism to offshore more 4th and 3rd income quintile production and manufacturing jobs, *perhaps* create a few more 2nd income quintile jobs, play into the hands of big business trade, and further harm small business and entrepreneurship.

We learned this lesson with opening up China that created the Walmart and Target business model, and we learned it again with the NAFTA agreement. How many more times do we need to slant trade for this nation just so big buiness obtains bigger profits at the expense of a diminished middle class they look at as a debt based consumer?

Tell me everything that's in it and I'll tell you if I support it.

It gives corporations the power to sue a country if that country's fiscal policy negatively affects the corporation's profits in any way.

I don't support fast-track anything, except emergency aid relief...

We cant. Only know what little parts have been leaked. And it aint good.

And that's the crux. What's the hurry? Why the secrecy? It's not like this is something that is so super-critical time wise that it must be done right now, damn the torpedoes.

No. Be methodical. Be open. I hate the phrase "If you have nothing to hide...", but in this case I cannot help but think that.

That's right and anyone who is for or against it is just guessing.

We have no choice, especially when the government wants both speed and secrecy with something as important as international trade. Our concerns are founded.

Agreed. It's a hurry and enact before the people find out what's in it maneuver.

Exactly. Every time. And it has never served we the people well.

IMHO, it's a violation of public trust.

And even then, because of the speed necessary, they (politicians) take advantage and add untold amounts of non-related items that would be questionable on their own.

Ya, I considered mentioning that... But it depressed me too much

Well for one thing I oppose fast track because I oppose expanding the powers of the presidency.

It gives corporations the power to sue a country if that country's fiscal policy negatively affects the corporation's profits in any way.

But this is also a big issue for me. Actually allowing corporate profits to have this much legal precedence is insane.

Well damn. I completely misunderstood what was going on with this. I was under the impression this was being suggested as a means to allow more American exports into other countries.

Yes I do because the good that it does for the business Im in will help Americans ten fold and its the first ****ing thing I can think of that Republicans and Obama agree on.

I do not support fast tracking. The fact they doing this means they are trying to hide something before its too late to something about it.

FASTTRACK being the operative word here... NO, trade agreements shouldn't be passed "fast" or without the Legislature and the general public knowing what's in it, and having an opportunity to have comments about it.

That said, from what I've seen as a result of our other trade agreements, guessing as best I can what likely in this one, I'm likely against the TPP as well.

But I am certainly against the fast track authorization, regardless of whether I would like the TPP.

If 'exports' you mean American jobs, then yes it would.
