Black Lives, Blue Lives or Something Else. Which lives matter?

Which lives matter?

Of course you won't, because the media won't cover it. There are far more marches and protests to stop gang violence than there were over Freddie Gray. People who watch the news just don't care about a story that lacks group A getting angry and violent toward group B. It's the mainstream media and the people who closely follow it that don't care about the nearly 90 black men and women killed and hurt over Memorial Day Weekend. The people of Chicago and Baltimore definitely care about it, and if you don't think so, you should go and ask the people who live there.
Really? Funny..,because every time this comes up, someone trots out an article that is titled roughly "WHo says people dont care" and then they post a link to a rally held by 12 people 9 years ago, 30 people 6 years ago, a candlelight vigil that almost got held 2 years ago but had to be cancelled because people were afraid to attend, or the rally in Chicago that really was just a teachers rally meant to get more teachers and higher salaries from 6 years ago...they post this 'plethora' of links from smatterings of communities over 15 years that is supposed to somehow equal the outrage. Sort of like what you just talked about. Of course...you are probably different. You are going to show us all these current ongoing events and activities...things rivaling thee anti-cop rallies but arent getting media attention. You arent going to trot out some article about 9 people marching in Gary Indiana back in 2007. Are you.

Oh...and I'd like to ask some of those citizens....but they are afraid to open their doors these days.

"I'm afraid to go outside," said Perrine, 47. "It's so bad, people are afraid to let their kids outside. People wake up with shots through their windows. Police used to sit on every corner, on the top of the block. These days? They're nowhere."

Shocking. Their mayor throws them under the bus, the DA slaps ridiculous charges on police officers, cops were ordered to stand down...crowds are surrounding and threatening cops when they try to do their job...

and cops arent as visible these days. Shocking.

"Go away! Wait...come back! We love you...I mean **** you, pigs...why arent you here to save us?"

Or maybe it's something like "we want police here to help us, but not police who abuse their power and target black people for being black." That seems like a reasonable message.

And I'm going to take a wild guess and say that there's another reason you would never go to inner city Baltimore or Detroit. I would love for you to spend a day in their shoes.

I've never read the article you're referring to or seen it posted. I'll be happy to post some links, though. Unfortunately, nobody will be able to find anything about recent gang violence protests in Baltimore because the first thousand pages of google are filled with Freddie Gray stories. I'll be happy to share the latest from the last few years, and since you mention Chicago:

Here's one from Chicago from 2013 (500 people, not 9)
Social media initiative to stop the gang violence in Chicago
And in a Chicago community in 2012, once again attended by hundreds
Again, hundreds of people in Springfield, Mass from 2014

Harlem and Newark have had protests in recent years. Chicago has had a lot of them. Detroit has had them. I can keep posting links but what's the point? You prefer your narrative and would rather change the facts than your opinion. It took me 5 minutes to find those ones and there are hundreds more from recent years. So that's hundreds of protests with hundreds of people, which over the years add up to hundreds of thousands that protest gang violence. It's not just protests, it's community outreach programs, state government action, involvement with families and schools, etc. Al Sharpton has spoken about it so many times that it would take forever just to post all the links here.

Gang violence is something these people have to live with. People who live in the inner city are threatened by gang violence. Members of their family are shot. Some members of their family may be the ones shooting people. For them, this is life and death. For you, it's a political talking point. That seems pretty disgusting to me.

Are people really so confused by the "Black Lives Matter" slogan that they have to insist on this pedantic "Hurr durr I care about all lives!" distinction? Obviously the people who sport the slogan aren't saying that other peoples lives are less important. They are using the slogan because they believe there is an identifiable group of people who have been singled out for discrimination and terrible practices when it comes to their interactions with the police and that therefore their deaths should receive special attention to rectify this alleged injustice. "Black Lives Matter" is a response to a perceived injustice not some brainless belief that only 'black lives' matter.

So..... why wasn't this brought up when 2200 black guys killed other black guys in 2013? I mean, those lives mattered, too. Where was all the marching for them? The sign-carrying, the petition-signing. Why does it only have to have a trendy hashtag if they are killed by someone white? Or killed by a cop? Even if you say that, no, all lives don't matter in this instance, because we are talking about black lives - why not all black lives? They all matter, don't they?

Oh...damn. See you DID do that EXACT thing I was talking about. ONE rally...WOW '500' people...held one time...back in 2013...and then...gone. Cant blame em. Hell they had 50 people shot in Chicago last week. Its not SAFE to go a protesting. Oh...a Social Media protest...THATS the equivalence of the "Black Lives Matter" events. And once AGAIN...by the HUNDREDS...3 years ago.

Yep. The same pathetic weak ass offering. Meanwhile...theres blood in the streets every weekend.

Do you REALLY want to pretend its the same thing? :lamo

A cop kills Mike Brown...a piece of **** street thug. And what happens? Hell...THAT response is still ongoing. A mother and her 7 year old son got shot yesterday.

Nothing.

I gotta tell ya man...your pretense that it somehow 'matters' while people die or that those clown shows somehow indicate this broad community response...THAT seems pretty disgusting to me. But hey...thats just me.

Oh...and BTW...one of your oh so powerful 'stories'...

CHICAGO (STMW) — More than 200 local residents, fed up with what they perceive to be dangerous gang-related funeral processions rolling through their Beverly and Mount Greenwood communities, were staged a silent protest Saturday afternoon.

They are protesting gang related funeral processions. :lamo

Once.

Cuz...black lives matter.

Geeeeeeezus.

So now the thread has reached the point of asking everybody again, do ALL LIVES really MATTER?
:doh

That point was reached awhile back when you decided to spew your made-up false bs about the Zimmerman case.

Because the odds of being killed by a cop while unarmed are far higher if you're black. It doesn't need to be said that white lives matter, because this never happens to them, and saying all lives matter is too general to get the point across.

It sounds like you're naive enough to believe that only what the media shows you actually happens.

Hmmm. I'm an "all lives matter" gal. BUT! Blue Lives deserve our strict attention. We simply must realize that cops are human beings, that they aren't perfect, that they make mistakes. There is a HUGE!! difference between a cop that acts in a depraved manner and one that makes a mistake. In our current witch hunt mindset, I think we've lost sight of that.

While I agree with you that all lives are important, cops have a particularly different job. They are tasked to do daily with bad people, difficult situations and on occasion split second difficult life or death decisions. It's difficult to be perfect under those circumstances. It's difficult to not be psychologically affected by the job. It's impossible for everyone to appreciate the outcome of your actions.

On the other hand, there are heavy responsibilities that come with positions which have that much power. I've seen police abuse their authority. I was once a military policeman myself. The job is sometimes thankless, sometimes rewarding. It requires scrutiny but it also deserves understanding.

None of the Above.

Whether a life matters depends upon the individual and what they do to make themselves either matter or not. Most people matter. But some make themselves a negative to their society, thus making their lives not matter and their death a positive.

I strongly agree. It's basic logic that the subtraction of a negative is a positive.

You're preach in' to the choir, Sawdust. I completely agree.

In context...how is it demonstrated that all these other lives matter? There were 81 people in two cities shot and 19 of them killed in one weekend. That's pretty ****ing tragic. We aren't talking a convenience store thug here...we are talking many innocents caught in the crossfire of straight up victims of attacks. Where are the pickets? Where are the protests? 37 people dead in one month in Baltimore...most recently a mother and her son. Where is the outrage? Where is the AG? Where are the race batters and charlatans?

Black lives don't matter. People don't even offer the pretense that they do. THOSE black lives are different. THOSE black lives don't even merit a decent sidewalk disturbance.

Tragic indeed.

Black lives matter. Of course they do. All lives matter.

What's surprising is who's demonstrating, through their actions no less, that they believe black lives don't matter.

Baltimore sees deadliest month in 15 years - CNN.com

May 2015: Baltimore's deadliest month since 1996 - Baltimore Sun

What say you, Madam Mayor?
“As a mom, that’s something you carry with you every day,” she said. “He was 16 on the bus stop coming from school. There are good citizens out here. I don’t bring harm to no one. I’m fed up, and my heart is sad from all this shooting.”
. . .
The mayor condemned the shootings and outlined actions being taken after meeting with the commissioner.
They include more foot patrols, a focus on repeat offenders, and new Western District leader.
“We can’t tolerate this. Not on any level, this level of violence,” said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
The commissioner has said officers faced challenges in the western district, often being surrounded when responding to calls–all of this since the death of Freddie Gray.
The number of arrests is way down this may compared to last, yet police brass contend they’re not backing off.
And in a new letter addressing challenges, point out their focus will remain in the western district, where three more people were shot overnight.
“It’s absolutely egregious that we’ve passed the 100 mark for homicides in the City of Baltimore,” said Jamal Bryant.
The number of homicides is 35 so far this month. That beat the previous record in December 1999.
There have been 108 homicides so far this year as compared to 75 last year around this time.
Baltimore police also report a total of 205 non-fatal shootings so far this year, compared to 115 last year.

Puts more police on the streets, on foot patrols, outside of the protection of their cruiser, hopefully NOT to become additional targets of opportunity.

50 years of failed liberal / leftist policies, and this is what you get.

"I know. Let's institute the same policies in all major cities across the nation. It'll make things better" - The leftists claim.
And I'm being accused of being a racist when I object to that direction. Nice. We as a nation are so surely screwed.

Absolutely makes the point. 108 homicides in 5 months in Baltimore (and how many hundreds of shootings, beatings, stabbings). ANd why are discussing Baltimore? Because one guy with a long criminal history got arrested and may or may not have been mishandled by cops upon arrest.

Baltimore has consistently been near the top of the leaderboard as one of the most violent cities in the country. That has never mattered. Hell...it still doesnt. The violence in Baltimore didnt get any attention til cops arrested a guy who hit his head in a police vehicle after he was in custody.

To be fair, it really shouldn't matter how many arrests someone has, the police shouldn't be abusing anyone in their custody.

The point I was making that all this 'Black Live Matter' claiming that the rest of society doesn't acknowledge or accept this is more or less propaganda, as the people that don't live by 'Black Lives Matter' are within their own communities, the murder and non-fatal assault statistics from Baltimore document this clearly.

If these communities really want to improve their communities, they should be reporting those that are shooting and stabbing people to the police, rather than protesting when one of them is arrested.

Oh... I think his history is relevant. If police beat the **** out of my neighbor Id be pissed. If they beat the **** out of my neighbor, a career scumbag caught in the commission of a crime...I'd probably not give half a damn. However...we had riots and racial tensions with blacks specifically targeting whites over 6 cops arresting this guy and SOMETHING happening on the way to the station. Its that 'something' that no one even knows about yet. Certainly not worthy of what the community and city response has been.

Its ironic that the communities are invariably their own worst enemy. They destroy their own community in protest. They defend people that victimize...their own community.

Doesnt matter. If a cop makes a mistake that resaults in the loss of any of my rights... They should be given zero leeway and their badge should be taken into zero consideration (except for maybe extra punishment if they abused their authority). We need to start seeing cops be put behind bars at x3 the punishment that normal citizens get instead of them getting so much slack and leeway, having the cities insurance pay for the misdeed.

Did you see the video of the guy screaming as they are dragging him into the van? They mishandled the crap out of him. There is no denying that.

What annoys me about the "Black Lives Matter" people is that they only bring that out when a black person is killed by a white person (or a person who LOOKS white - Zimmerman). So really it's not "black lives matter" it's "black lives only matter when whitey kills them".

FYI- Zimmerman doesn't just "LOOK white" - he is white. Just like me our race is white and our ethnicity would be Hispanic.

I really really REALLY couldn't disagree more with your overall thinking.

Thats because you havent dealt with the cops I have dealt with. I have dressed "grunge" since highschool. Torn and tattered hoodies. Cheap old clothes that ive had forever. Ive had more cops **** with me and harrass me then I have had be formal and sincere. All for nothing other than they percieve me as "ghetto". The 1 time I was arrested the cops lied on the report and made me look criminal. These cops need to have serious repurcussions for abusing their position. The cavalier attitude of these cops needs to stop. Cops are in a position of trust and need to be punished MORE for the same crime. Not given leeway. Sorry you cant see that this would be better for society as a whole, over time. We need raw injection of raw manpower of people who will be willing to follow the rules and set good examples. Not these lazy cops who pull in tickets so lethargically yet cavalier. There is good reason that respect for cops is dwindling and dwindling. It needs to be fixed.

People feel like the authority in control atm often times can be too lazy to turn on their own bad cops because its easier for them to make the victim look bad, and forget about the misdeeds of cops.

If cops want extra authority and pristigue they should also have extra punishments and oversight.

I personally wont be happy until EVERY single cop records their shift 100% without the ability to manipulate their recorder. And every single corner of every single jail and prison is recorder so we can finally get rid of all the rogue cops.

A cop is a volenteer for their job. Cops being subconciously racist or judgemental against ghetto people violates natural, non volunteer beings. Seeing as a cop is a volenteer they should be held to the strictest standards because they have so much sway in controlling direct interactions with society and hold so much weight when it comes to credibility.

Or we can just keep it like it is now and more and more and more people will continue to be mistrusting of cops over time. Fix it? Or dont fix it?

I have to laugh at your post, Chris. You dress like a thug and are then surprised you aren't treated like someone other than thug by GUYS WHO WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY GET HOME ALIVE EVERY NIGHT. Selfish bastards. And you say more people need to follow the rules. There are social rules too. Physician, heal thy self.

I was married to someone who had problems with authority. Like that black woman. Perhaps like you. What kind of ****ing idiot calls someone to see if she had to give her name? Turns her back on a police officer and walks away? I am so tired of this latest black mantra: I was disrespected! Or better yet: She called me out my name. What fools.

We sure do live in a ****ed up world...

Thug? Who the **** said anything about thug... I see you are ok with cops being biased. So i look like a grungey bum cuz I never buy new clothes. That doesnt give cops a right to stop me for no reason and start making up **** about me.

Why wouldnt you want 100% monitorization of a public servant on the job, when that servant has the ability to take life and make stuff up? Are you insane? ITS A VOLENTEER JOB.

FYI- Zimmerman doesn't just "LOOK white" - he is white. Just like me our race is white and our ethnicity would be Hispanic.

Which begs the question of why opposing illegal immigration makes someone racist.

Where did I EVER say I was against anything of the sort. Body cams and dash cams should be standard issue.

You look like a grungey bum because you want to. Tattered and torn? Ridiculous. You probably look like a druggie. You could counter that at your first moment of interaction with a cop. But you've got a worse perception of HIM at first glance than he does of you.

You think it's nothing to be a cop...who walks around all shift with a target on his back...who can die walking up to a car to issue a speeding ticket...who runs TOWARD the danger the rest of us run from. There are some bad apples. They should be in jail. The cops in this video, in this instance, aren't of that ilk.

She was a jerk. I blame al sharpton and his crew in various disguises for somehow imparting that it's smart and brave to try to assert one's rights with a cop on the street. Idiots all.
