Certainly improved over the 1970s. But I see little real improvement in the last decade.

I would says elected officials are MORE polarized, because they only represent one faction.

The people electing them seem to feel fairly consistently.

Poll incoming:

To elaborate, do you believe that the overall political situation, meaning your satisfaction with how the USA is governed, the political ideology of its people, the application of the law and justice, voting and representation, has improved in your lifetime?

And do you believe that it WILL or WONT improve in your remaining lifetime?

I think it's impossible to argue that democracy - which is what you're really talking about - has greatly improved through my lifetime and will continue to improve. Technology, such as the Internet and social media, has greatly increased even casual involvement in political discussion and the airing of important issues. No longer are backroom deals so prevalent and public scrutiny of those holding political office is as great as it's ever been.

Democracy is messy and I look at the divisions in American political discourse to be a perfect example of a vibrant democracy at work. I can't help but think there's no going back and things will continue to get messier and thus better as time goes on.

About their power sure. They suffer from the same addiction there. But what about the direction of the nation?
The nation is increasingly less competitive internationally as globalization increases.
