So if you were chosing between two guys, and they were identical, same profession, similar personality, similar income, similar voice, both have the same sense of humor, both are caring and kind, maybe they are even identical twins, except one had a dadbod, and the other looked like a fitness model.

Honestly, which would you chose?

Well you aren't going to believe me anyway, because you think that everybody is shallow and has to have partners that look like body builders to be happy, but I have never in my life been attracted to men with 6 pack abs. As I've mentioned before, they are OK to look at, but they are just not what I am interested in. I don't see why this is so hard for you. Why can't I be attracted to what I want to be attracted to, without you questioning me about it? What if I told you that I didn't believe you when you said you weren't attracted to morbidly obese women? I wouldn't argue with you. What attracts you to certain things are what make you you. There ARE men out there who like big women. There are ALOT of them. Just like there are a lot of women out there who don't like washboard abs. Dadbods are fine, ok? They are fine. I think the husband on the "Jake from State Farm" commercial is just adorable, and I'd much rather go out with him, than somebody built like a body builder. It's what attracts me. I also like Vince Vaughn. He's kind of a "dadbod."

But my all around body type that I am most attracted to? More than anything? Tall, thin guys with dark hair. I don't know why, but I've been attracted to that since I was a little girl.

I would pick THIS:

any day, and twice on Sunday, because what physically attracts me is someone who looks like Adrian Brody. Hell, if I saw Brody in the store, I'd hide behind the clothes racks and watch him walk around. The other guy? I'd pass him on by, because he's not that attractive to me. Is he ugly? No. He just does nothing for me, and that's all that matters.

Self explanatory. Give your thoughts pls

Meh. As the term is defined in one of the articles someone else posted - basically, a moderately fit guy who is neither especially fat, nor expertly chiseled - I don't have a particular problem with it.

Hell! Excepting a couple of times when I've really let myself go for a few months, or when I first came out of basic training and only weighed like 155 lbs on a 6'1" frame, I've always had a "dad bod." Even now, the best I usually manage is to come off basically looking like that guy who plays the Governor on The Walking Dead - tall, sort of lanky, and not especially broad shouldered, but with juuusst enough muscle mass not to look a scrawny wimp.

I like food too damn much, and I'm way too damn lazy, to ever get really cut like those guys in the magazines (probably, anyway). Lol

Now, what I do have a problem with, however, is the possibility that this will basically become an excuse for blatantly fat men to brag about being unhealthy, like it has with women.

I mean... I'm sorry, but if you're rocking straight up man titties, you don't have a "dad bod." You just need to go to the gym.

I also haven't seen much of any evidence to suggest that women are "lusting" after guys with more average bodies. 9 times out of 10, the guys the ladies flock towards at the bars, clubs, and most other venues almost universally tend to be big, broad shouldered, jockish guys with finely chiseled jawlines, or slightly smaller guys, with roughly the same proportions and features.

Sooo... Yea. On the whole, I don't have any issues with it. It'd probably be best to keep it all in perspective, however.

Entirely fictitious. Created to drive click bait and nothing more. No one in the real world had heard of this before it became a series of Buzzfeed and Gawker articles.

There is nothing wrong with it at all. But isn't awesome better?

I suspect that most of the ladies who are saying that they are OK with dadbods, would actually prefer a buff bod, but they just don't want to appear to be shallow and/or they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, or maybe they don't feel worthy of having a buff bod dude as a mate.

You are welcome to be comfortable with your mediocrity. I will will continue to be awesome, matter of fact, without you guys, I wouldn't be awesome, so...thanks Dadbods!

To the bolded. Having been with two 6-pack men, I can say you're dead wrong. I didn't know there was a 6-pack under their shirts until after dating a while, but what I did know is they made me laugh my butt off, shared my interests, had a brain and were decent human beings. Those are the things I preferred to other guys I dated (kissed a few toads). If they had been softer in the belly, I wouldn't have cared a whit. Truth be told, until either revealed their personalities, meh.

Why would a woman have to feel worthy of having any sort of man? Sounds like the "buff-bod dude" might impose that requirement. On the other hand, very good looking women date/have relationships with/marry less than perfect specimens.

I'm not making fun of Billy Joel, just saying, women care less about perfection than you give us credit for.

^5 SF!

I share your appreciation for Adrian (as you well know). Wash-board guy does nothing for me and he looks painful to cuddle with.

 Right. Plus, his mirror might get in the way.

LOL! I wrote something similar but deleted it (post getting too long). Simpatico are we. :)

About 301,000 results (0.60 seconds) from a Google Search on "Dad bod craze".

In other words. This supposed "craze" is just that. Supposed. It doesn't exist. Now I do believe and understand to a degree that middle aged men in the age of Tinder and texting where if you're even 2 pounds overweight you're never talking to a woman under age 50, I do believe such men have a vested interest in promoting this but Google is generally a measure of your impact and not even 400,000 results amounts to not even registering culturally.

I think a few things bring this demand by middle aged men on:

-Western culture has become more health-Progressive. This is the great triumph of the Left. The social sector. This is where the Left has really obliterated the "traditional" Right. The health Progressives have won out over the Overweight capitalist class and now dominate Western culture. There's a gym every two blocks. Making good $$$ no longer is the only "Sexual Capital". Younger women now fully expect to see abs. Which means a lot of middle aged guys aren't getting what was the standard previously. Good job? Middle aged? Overweight? Don't worry you can still get under 30 women thanks to your socioeconomic class. That was the standard. That is gone. Bigtime. Obviously that isn't a popular reality with middle aged men who are sexually worth a lot less than they were in years past.

-You have a lot of middle aged men that now have the $$$$ but don't have the body to get under 30 women in our modern "FIT/NO FAT=GOD" culture.

-It has to suck making good $$$ yet not being able to land that under 30 p anymore due to the progressive health culture now dominating everything.

Out of curiosity I googled dad bod, the second link included a height weight chart and turns out I am too heavy for the dad body range. I think that's hillarious, people with dad bods are apparently skinny compare to me, yet I'm not fat at all.

I also noticed that almost every reference to dad bod was in the last week or so, with the oldest dating back to the last day of Feb. I agree with everyone who thinks that this is pretty much just made up.

It's an attempt by economic rightists to somehow link Don Drapers character in Mad Men to the average overweight suburban dad. While I admire this, I also must ponder some hard truths on this valiant attempt:

-Mad Men is a fictional TV show. It never happened. Don Draper never existed. It's an idea.

-The man who plays Don Draper is a paid actor in an ultra glamorized, commercialized, scripted, 100% unrealistic (even for the 60's) "Jack of all Trades" pretend character.

-I actually know many under 30 young professional women that love Mad Men and claim they'd love Don Draper. They're the exact women who are sleeping with guys with rock hard abs who live @ the Gym. For women it's a fad to love Don Draper but that night they're getting plowed by Mr. 6 pack. Food for thought. If a woman says she finds fat middle aged men romantic, always remember that her subconscious (the real her) acts on the opposite feelings (Mr. 6 pack).

Women act on their subconscious's above all else. If a woman tells you she idealizes Don Draper that carries about as much weight as a penny stock.

Gotta say, in general I've seen a lot more fatasses watching BBC and Sky than I've seen on any American channel, a lot more.
Cultural difference: British TV goes in for fairly brutal realism, US TV goes in for idealised images.
