Some of you didn't seem to notice that "other" was one of the choices.

Australia cant be the best everything is trying to kill you there, getting killed is generally not considered a good thing

Hey, when some of the things here bite you, dying does seem like a good thing.

Judging the size of a country by population is like judging penis size by sperm count.

I think I would have to go with Canada. Basically its like America with a tenth of the population density, even more wilderness, and a fraction of the crime rate. I am a very outdoorsy person though, so those are the things I care about most.

Canada is a terrific country.

China is polluted and has a repressive government.

India is immerging but still has a cast system with lots of poverty.

USA the best big country.

Brazil is a crony capitalist state. I have friends who immigrated from Brazil who I love that left because of the crime.

Russia has a repressive regime and no love of free markets.

Japan is a cool place, I don't like sushi.

Germany is interesting, good beer, lousy politics.

France will be part of the caliphate in twenty years.

UK fish and chips, Harrods, no dentists. Pass.

other those are the large countries. Of the places I've been to around the world, Singapore is highly technological and interesting from an entrepreneurial standpoint. I don't believe I would live in Europe unless I didn't have ambition. Africa is probably out. There are several places in the Caribbean that would be fun but Island fever takes over in a while. Mexico used to be cool but now it's too dangerous. I'm stuck in Florida and that's ok with me.

Easy answer there, the USA all the way.

China, dictatorial regime with a lot of cash but with the bad civil rights and democracy being a fiction there it can never be the best large country

India, interesting but still just better than a third world country with a lot of potential. Loads of problems still exist there, the poverty, corruption, sanitation (with almost half a million people dying from diarrhea). Not a candidate for best country IMHO.

Brazil, poverty, corruption, third world country, etc. etc. etc. Not a best country IMHO.

Russia, hell no, hell no way. Russia is a corrupt, undemocratic, horrendously civil rights abusing dictatorship. A candidate for worst country, not best country.

Japan. No, a country that is dis-functional in many ways. In social ways it is very backward. And I should know, I worked in 2 Japanese companies and they are just weird (and not in a good way). And their economy which was driven by "loaning" ideas from other countries/inventors had made their economy boom for decades but that was only due to no competitors. Now that other countries have been just as good as what Japan was so good as, but with lower wages, Japan is suffering economic hardship with little or no hope for the short term future. Not a best country IMHO.

Germany, good country, but not as good as the USA. Germany is still working through the unification with East Germany and in some aspects is still a country of 2 halves. Good democratically strong country, good economy, etc. etc. etc. but that is not good enough to be "the best big country" because with less than 100 million I do not think it is a big country, the same goes for France and the UK.

There is just one superpower and that is the United States of America and it is still the best large country in the world and will stay that for at least several decades IMHO.

It will not be the first time the french have surrendered.

I did live in Europe for two years...enjoyed it, but would never settle down there. If I were to leave the US, the only other places I would consider are Canada and Australia.

Forgot about Australia, one place I've always wanted to go but never been.
