So the Union troops were fighting to end slavery? I don't think so.

The Union was fighting to preserve the Union.

It was only until halfway through the war it pivoted on slavery.

The South, however, went to war to preserve, protect and expand slavery.

And Canadians are Americans

And Mexicans are Americans...

do Canadians call themselves Canadians americans?....no?

do Mexicans in Mexico call themselves Mexican americans...no?

the southern states called themselves the confederate states of america, just as the united states of america.

is there a RULE that says the confederate states Citizens cannot call themselves americans?

well, rule? no. common sense and consistent usage being against it? yes.

the people of the south were born in america, they have the ability
to call themselves americans just as the north did.

no, they threw away their "right" the minute they swore oaths to a different constitution, waved a new flag, and went around killing Americans.

So they could call themselves Confederate Americans.

Who wanted nothing to do with the United States of America.

Happily, there's was a four year traitorous stint that didn't end well and they're all dead and gone now.

how can they be traitors...since you just stated they "wanted nothing to do with the u.s."

treason involves aiding an enemy in time of war.....the southerns state were not attempting to overthrow the federal government.

Full right.

The War was about slavery for the South.

It was about Union for the North.

wrong, you need to read the declarations of each state, ...which i know you have not.

you would see the some states seceded because they did not like what northern states and the federal government was doing to the south.....violating federal law, harassing southern citizens and stealing property.

They made war on the US. They seized Federal property all over the South and fired on US Ships and Forts. They were traitors.

Stop playing dumb.

"Treason against the United States shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. "

sorry wrong...in constitutional law treason is stated , the founders talk about treason...which i know you have not read, and they state treason is aiding the enemy in time of war.

They're Southern losers and redneck trailer trash.

further, from a paper in January 1861:

In 1790, the Congress of the United States enacted that:

"If any person or persons, owing allegiance to the United States of America, shall levy war against them, or shall adhere to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States, or elsewhere, and shall be thereof convicted on confession in open Court, or on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act of the treason whereof he or they shall stand indicted, such person or persons shall be adjudged guilty of treason against the United States, and SHALL SUFFER DEATH; and that if any person or persons, having knowledge of the commission of any of the treasons aforesaid, shall conceal, and not, as soon as may be, disclose and make known the same to the President of the United States, or some one of the Judges thereof, or to the President or Governor of a particular State, or some one of the Judges or Justices thereof, such person or persons, on conviction, shall be adjudged guilty of misprision of treason, and shall be imprisoned not exceeding seven years, and fined not exceeding one thousand dollars."

Wow. You really don't know your Constitution - do you?

it is you that does not, because you don't read, the north is the one that called up troops, the south had not intention of over throwing the federal government

as already stated BY YOU!....

the southern states are no longer part of the union, they have left...formed their own government......they have no allegiance.

Really? When? You see, I remember things like state secession, new CS flag, new currency, swearing of new military oaths, etc. Aka people who didn't want to be "Americans {as the word had meant prior} any more.
If I'm remembering incorrectly, why was there such resistance to the IronClad Oath ("Damnesty") ?

An easier to defend stance would be that voters entrusted their elected officials to represent their interests and that those officials in the Confederacy betrayed their citizens. Punishing the voters was just wrong.
