Yes!!!!!!! ;(
It bothers me way more than the thought of people suffering! They are so innocent! :(

It does me...a lot, but then I recognize that my views on animals are not the same as everyone else's. Just curious if my views are somewhat "extreme" when it comes to animal welfare.

Working on poll.

If it's due to mistreatment.

Yeah, i somewhat admire philosophies such as jainism that aim to avoid harming any living thing. I dislike the idea of scientists experimenting on animals for human benefit, or humans encroaching on animal habitats, and i especially abhor the suffering of pets who are more loving than most humans i've met.

However, there is and always has been suffering in the animal kingdom. Lions when killing their prey do not care about the victim's suffering. It's not like a shark is going to give its meal a lethal injection before tearing into it, the way scientists will do to their lab rats.

Suffering (when limited) also serves the purpose of letting us know to escape the current situation and avoid similar in the future.

Words cannot express how upset I get even reading stories about what people have done to helpless animals. It hits me viscerally. I'm the one who instantly flips the channel when images of tortured animals suddenly appear on the screen. I live in a rural county, and newspaper photos of emaciated horses left to starve and die of thirst make me literally break into tears.

I know it's illogical, because in the wild animals torture and eat each other, but when it comes to domesticated pets being abused for sport, or game animals suffering with multiple arrows just because some idiot wanted target practice, I just get crazy. I simply can't allow myself to dwell on this kind of evil because it eats me up inside. :(

Greetings, DiAnna. :2wave:

You and many others, including me. They're cowards that pick on helpless creatures that nature and evolution put us in charge of - they aren't here to be cruelly and callously treated by us. I'd like to see something done about how cattle and chickens being readied for wholesale slaughter by mega-giant firms are being treated, too. Very little humane treatment is being shown to them - packing them together so tightly that they can't move at all in any direction is wrong. They're living beings that feel pain - not robots. So sad...

I don't lay awake at night fretting that somewhere, there might be a chicken that was slaughtered inhumanely.

But if I see it, I don't like it. Even when I kill varmint pests, like rabid foxes, I try to make it clean and quick.

So an ASPCA commercial on dog fighting the other day. Cried my eyes out and had to go hug my dog.

I donate to ASPCA and have for near 30 years( I've been a member of the founders society for nearly 20 years).... I hate their commercials, though.

the emotional manipulation/blackmail comes near to pissin' me off.

It bothers you because it's sick. There's such a difference between animals competing with each other for food or being food and humans abusing them. We're supposed to be better...and most of us are, thank goodness.

Yes and no. I don't mind hunting, even for sport (I'd actually really like the opportunity to go big game hunting one day), or farming for meat. I'm a rather avid carnivore myself, in point of fact.

However, the imposition of needless cruelty or unnecessary suffering on an animal does bother me, and is something which I would never engage in myself. Kills should be made as quick and clean as possible, and largely limited to matters of either necessity or utility.

I don't want animals tortured. I don't think anyone does. Most serial killers or psychopaths start at a young age with animals then grow up to do the same to adults.

I couldn't say it more succinctly, Di. You must be reading my mail.

I have a profound concern for animals of all kinds. Domestic and wild animals are like kids to me. A lot of folks seem to have no compassion or caring for animals in general. They're disconnected with the reality that they (humans) are just one among all other types animals that have very similar body parts that are subject to pain and suffering (physically and mentally) as humans are. Humanity's evolved state shouldn't overshadow its reality that most all other animals preexisted humans. Being evolved isn't an excuse to exploit and abuse all other life forms. And we can't deny that humans are the most dangerous species on the planet.

I live in a rural area, too. On any given day I can usually see in my yard, or near by, deer, wild turkeys, all sorts of critters. When we have drought conditions for extended periods I put out feeders, bales of alfalfa, bird food, and watering tubs. The raccoons, possums, etc like dog food. Or when the winters are harsh, I do the same.

I realize that I can't intervene in any meaningful way to save all of the puppies and kitties or wildlife, but that doesn't stop me from being as much help as I can in my own environment. I support local animal rescue organizations and animal humane societies. And I've been known to pay for the kidnapping of some abused domestic animals in my area and have them delivered to a local humane society or shelters that don't destroy animals. ;)

I love to pet animals... I just love to eat them more.
If God didn't want us to eat animals, He shouldn't gave made them taste so Good :)

A little, because it is not an issue I dwell on very much. We should not cause undue suffering to animals. But I still plan to eat and wear them and use them in medical research.

Anyone that answered. 'Yes' and is not a vegetarian is, IMO, at least somewhat of a hypocrite on this subject.

It's more popular than ever. If we were zombies you'd be doomed.

And yet the meat river keeps flowing...

Bow down to all powerfull bacon!

+1 for zombie reference.

OK back on topic...

It's good some people are vegan, as long as they don't go religious zealot on us. We are omnivores we eat meat. I like beef, pork and chicken as do millions of others. I feel bad for farm animals, but it saves me the time of going out and getting the meat for myself.

I see it like this: everyone has their signs they carry in demonstration. There are many issues to be addressed, not everyone must carry the same sign.

I don't much care for arguments/points/positions founded on what "they" said; I figure go argue with "they".
