:beatdeadhorse:beatdeadhorseConservatives exhibit less cognitive ability than liberals do. Or that's what it says in the social science literature, anyway. A 2010 study using data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, for example, found that the IQs of young adults who described themselves as "very liberal" averaged 106.42, whereas the mean of those who identified as "very conservative" was 94.82. Similarly, when a 2009 study correlated cognitive capacity with political beliefs among 1,254 community college students and 1,600 foreign students seeking entry to U.S. universities, it found that conservatism is "related to low performance on cognitive ability tests." In 2012, a paper reported that people endorse more conservative views when drunk or under cognitive pressure; it concluded that "political conservatism may be a process consequence of low-effort thought."

The problem with the guys is not their intelligence. Think of Obama.

PS: One finds that the perception is mostly not congruent with reality. Even wealthy students don't make Yale, Harvard or both, if they are total dunces.

I just find it a fascinating phenomena in general. It does seem that Republicans are perceived to be anti intellectual even among themselves.

Democrat-Republicans , a party at one time ..Today, there is little if any difference between Democrats and Republicans , but actually we have liberals and conservatives (more conservatives than liberals ) and the conservatives are, IMO, simply NOT as smart .

I agree and I think it has a lot to do with conservatives "missing out" on a lot of things that now dominate our world.

-Conservatives have "enemies" where they should have "friends". Ex: White Tech Sector (That runs the world)

-Conservatives can't "adapt" to white tech secular individuals and they're being slaughtered bc of it (White Tech controls ALL media, ALL trending economics, ALL economic "anything" of significance). White Tech essentially "decides" if your business will succeed or fail.

-Liberals are good at "politically adapting" to juggernauts such as white tech who now run the world.

 the old saw is that if you disagree with a liberal, he will think you are immoral, while if you disagree with a conservative, he will think you are stupid.

Meanwhile, self-congratulation seems to be the basis for much of the lefts' tribalism.

It seems both sides perceive the other as less intelligent than themselves, but the right makes more allowance for liberals to be "Smart, But Wrong" than the left does in return.

My irony meter just assploded...

I don't think it's a question of intelligence, but there is a strong anti-intellectual streak on the Republican side. Also a majority of those who take everything on faith vote on that side. I think though, that's a question of gaining votes. Even their hero Bush was an Ivy Leaguer.

There's also no shortage of idiots on the Democratic side (see "Guam might sink"), and there's a large contingent who choose to "believe" science without any critical thought.

They're equally unintelligent.

So the left is very self-congratulatory, and you end your post with being self-congratulatory. Sadly, I expect no less.

 As I recall, the last time we went over this, I showed you how it was the modern day puritan left that was more likely to try to purge Heresy from our public discourse, and you did not respond.

Nah. It's hardly self-affirming to recognize that intelligent, well-thought out people disagree with you for good reasons. That is an argument that imposes a certain humility. It's self-affirming to argue that people who disagree with you are stupid, evil or both.

And yet, you call the left more self-congratulatory. Are you really a liberal, or do you just choose not to be as better as you claim to be?

Considering how quickly the anti-semitism card is played in any thread about...well just about anything, I'd hardly say that the left has a monopoly on that. There are plenty of self-congratulatory circle jerks in the gun and religion forums.

......what?

I tell you what. Let's start counting the number of times that public conservatives have accused Democrats of being anti-semitic, and the number of times that public liberals have accused Republicans of being racist. Whatcha think the results are going to be?

 I was correct in both instances. The left is indeed more self-congratulatory, and they are indeed (partly because of that, because other viewpoints are not only wrong, but uncredible) to seek to stamp out public opposition.

About equal. Sorry to not play into your persecution complex, but to say that there's no idiocy or self-congratulation on the right is idiotic and self-congratulatory. Therefore, exploding irony meters.

:lamo Not even close. :)

You are correct. It would also be a strawman, since no one made that argument :)

Have you been taking a break from here? I see it all the time from the right. If you want to prove that you're more persecuted, that's fine. I suspect that a lot of conservatism is based specifically on that idea. I've been accused of anti-semitism for merely saying "Israel" in a thread. It wasn't from a lefty either.

And you are making the argument that there's no self-congratulation on the right - in a very self-congratulatory way.

anyone who engages in judging and comparing the "smarts" of two groups that consist of tens of millions of individuals is , in fact, a complete and utter moron.

 all right. Let me know when FOX news anchors start arguing that driving a hybrid car is a dog-whistle for anti-semitism.

And you are making the argument that there's no self-congratulation on the right - in a very self-congratulatory way.

Actually I'm not making the argument that there is no self-congratulation on the Right at all. :) Reading Is Fundamental ;)
