Why are Jews so hated?

Why have Jews been so hated across history?

That I don't understand. Here, you don't really know whether someone is a Jew unless they tell you or you find out their last name is Goldberg or something. Then, when you do find out, it's, Oh, how interesting, what do you like to do in your spare time? It really doesn't matter to most Americans. It's like saying, "I like to play golf, do you?" or something similar. It could spark a conversation about golf, or religion, but it's not a matter of great interest. They've simply assimilated into our society.

American Jews assimilated into American society. But the USA, particularly in the past, was the great melting pot and became quite wealthy. Wealthy and easy is a powerful seduction to assimilate. Multi-generation Muslims also have tended to assimilate into USA culture and you would not know they are Muslim unless they say so, or generally know whether they are Arabic or Latino unless they say so.

Sex and babies in the USA has a lot to do with too. Nothing more obliterates bigotry than interracial marriages.

Why don't you guys get your story at least consistent?

Out of one side of your mouths you curse American Christians for loyalty to Israel because it is a Jewish country for religious reasons - and out of the other side of your mouth you declare is it Christians who have reason to hate Jews for religious reasons.

SO... are you going to stick with Christians hate Jews for religious reasons OR the claim that Christians blindly support Jews for religious reasons?

WHICH ONE IS IT? PICK ONE.

It actually CAN be both.

Let's hear it for interracial marriages. The sooner we're no longer able to pigeonhole people into categories, the better.

I don't know about that. However, it could be neither and all this blaming religion could just be trying to blow smoke up people's ass. It just might have to do with an general xenophobic clannish nature within the social constructions dna of homo sapiens.

In the animal world outsiders even of the same species are often killed on site for various reasons including territorialism. The reason cougars are so endangered is each one claims a massive territory and are totally bigoted in deadly ways against other cougars.

It also could be possessiveness about women - not wanting any of THOSE Jews to have OUR women. There is probably inherent traits that evolved in the species homo sapiens that instinctively cause fear- and thus hate - of those who are different.

MULTIPLE CHOICE - PUBLIC POLL

Jews have not engaged in an invasive war since the 9th century BC. Unlike Christians, Muslims and nearly every ethnicity, race and country, other than the initial formation of Israel 2900 years ago, Jews have never sought to create an empire by war or in any other manner.

For nearly 2000 years, Jews have fled from one region and country to another from oppression and systematic murder. The killing of Jews merely for being Jewish has never stopped. It would appear no ethnicity/race has been more hated for as long and as universally across the world as the Jews.

Why? Why are the Jews so hated everywhere leading to countless incidents of organized violence, murder, imprisonment, and other genocidal natured oppression?

Lots of reasons. However:

Historically they are foreigners. Ancient Jews and the rest of the world mutually did not integrate.

Medieval Christians were forbidden from usury (lending money for profit, the cornerstone of banking and financing) but nobility often wanted to live beyond their means. Jews weren't bound by Catholic laws, so they were formed the nucleus of what became modern banking and financing, and their presence in that economic sector continues to this day. Nobody like their creditors, so Jews were quite hated.

Even worse, Christians heavily preferred not to be tax collectors, so Jews were elevated into "royal property" and assigned the duty of collecting taxes. When taxes were particularly unpopular, kings would shift blame onto the Jews.

These professions were lucrative compared to the living standards enjoyed by the average peasant. Foreigners that take your money (as a creditor or as a tax collector) with special political status are rarely liked.

Since then, hatred of Jews has evolved and taken on gradually more complex attributes. That is the historical basis of anti-Semitism, however.

A buddy of mine who is Jewish jokes that it's because of all that running around at night poisoning people's wells, combined with all that kidnapping and murdering of Christian children to use their blood in the dishes they prepare for their rituals.
I'll have to ask him if he thinks murdering Jesus had anything to do with it.

That was over 2,000 years ago. People have had plenty of time to get over that.

Because people keep asking why they are hated.

As soon as you start asking why someone is different, you instantly begin a form of prejudice...and the more it is discussed, the more the 'prejudism' grows.

Jews are like most humans...a bunch of humans who insist on belonging to some sort of moronic 'club' that they call 'religion'...just like Christians, Muslims and all the other people who believe in this nonsense.

Religion is by FAR humanities stupidest invention.

And judging people by what religious club they belong to is humanities dumbest popular pastime.

But that would destroy interracial porn! And even worse, many of the recessive traits I get off on (green eyes, platinum blonde hair, etc.) would become unimaginably rare! What kind of sick bastard would want that???

Well, it used to be circumcision, but that's not unique to the Jews anymore.

...I guess their stylish hats are a major sore point among some groups of jealous individuals?

I know I've always wanted to have a yamaka of my own.

Not to get all technical or anything, but actually it was the Romans who killed Jesus.

By the time races get thoroughly mixed, you and I will be way beyond chasing green eyes or platinum hair, or anything else.

I'd explain to you how many REAL platinum blondes there are but I don't want to burst your bubble.

I mean, just look at those weird turbans the Muslims wear! Yamakas are vastly superior to those old rags...

Yes, I know, almost as weird as those baseball caps with the bills pointed backward. I think that's a way to hide the redness of the neck or something.

Resentment and jealousy probably. They were a discrete community and were generally successful.

Declaring themselves "God's Chosen People" probably didnt do them any good, lol, but as a modern person, I laugh at such claims and dont take them seriously. People of the past? Hard to say how they perceived such a claim.

True enough. And the Muslims have had almost 1,400 years to get over the belief that Jews grievously offended Allah by killing the messengers he sent to earth before Muhammad.

They consistently do quite well for themselves across basically all fields except athletics and politics (more after antiquity, I think, but still). A group of folks doing that well has to be up to something, right?

At least that's the thinking of jealous, hateful minds. Money makes the world go round.

Personally, I like Jews, I respect the hustle.

I'm sure there's more, but that's the one I suspect to be a pivotal factor. I'm no expert on antisemitism though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Basically this. In addition to the above, however, they have also traditionally been cultural outsiders in the areas they've inhabited, and made a deliberate point of trying remain somewhat insular, while not fully assimilating into local norms. Combined with their tendency towards monetary and material success, this simply served to create further distrust and resentment.

The Spanish Inquisition, for example, was actually largely triggered by wild conspiracy theories jealous native nobility took to spreading about converted Jews in the late Middle Ages. Already successful merchants and businessmen even before conversion, once freed from the legal restraints placed upon them as followers of the Jewish religion, "Conversos" quickly rose to the upper echelons of Spanish society. They also had quite an ego about it, often speaking of themselves as being superior to "gentile" Christians, as they could claim to be of the same race and bloodline as Christ himself.

Native Spaniards and unconverted Jews alike took offense to this, and many began speculating that there might be sinister motivations at play. These rumors gradually gained public notoriety, and eventually made it up to the ear of the king. That was basically "all she wrote."

It was, for all intents and purposes, a Medieval "red scare" brought on by tabloid style-rumor mongering.

I said liberal atheist. Hitler was a social conservative.

Hitler disliked the Jews for a number of reasons (most of which having to do with their perceived ties to Red Communism and Liberal Capitalism). "Social Conservatism" was not among them.

Hitler actually blamed the Jews for introducing Christianity to Europe, which he felt had made the German people weak.

I'd not go that far .. or is this extremism ? NO , religion is not stupid, it has its place, a great many men need it .
Not everything in our lives is explainable .. to our satisfaction .. One of those things is "why are Jews hated ?" This, of course is not completely true ...but , as the days go by, I find myself , more and more, hating the followers of Islam....Hate is such a dangerous thing .. I know..

As to communism , Not a problem, NOT evil, but the hatred and repression from Stalin and Hitler were evil ..
A possibility exists, that in the year 4,000, we will embrace communism. Man does change, but it takes "forever" .
Some days, I think that it all boils down to fear and ignorance, and there is plenty of that going around ..causing the "hatred of Jews", what little remains, here at home, but in the middle east, in the Islamic lands, mush works remains to be done.

Oh, I thought we were talking about the historical reasons. Christians, and especially Protestants, are very friendly towards Jewish groups today. The only people that I'd ever point out as on the iffy-side of things are the grouchy, 80+ year old male Catholic groups, but that's only because they don't like anyone. Outside of them is the far-right Christian groups that you wouldn't be able to call Christian, because they're so fringe and nutty.

That all changed with the post-WWII attitudes. The Catholic Church publicly denounced the "Christ Killers" attitudes in the 60s and fought against them, which lead to the revamping of much of its liturgy. Other denominations followed suit. The West also aligned itself with Israel for as a matter of our Middle East strategy. That's lead the Religious Right in the US to be very pro-Israel and pro-Judaism.

There's never going to be agreement between the groups, but there's no antipathy between them like there used to be.

mouths you curse American Christians for loyalty to Israel because it is a Jewish country for religious reasons
No, American Christians are stupid for supporting Israel, because Israel is a wealthy first-world country that is kicking the crap out of Palestinians who are on par with Ethiopians.

Give the Palestinians a couple hundred billion dollars and a well-trained, well-funded army and then we'll call it even.

Silly poll, criticism of Israeli foreign policy doesn't equate to hatred of Jews.
