Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK too?

Is political correctness a big problem in the TV world?

That show is going to be worthless without him. That is assuming they even try to continue it.

What happened to Two and a Half Men will happen here...

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

But that is what even some papers have said in the UK (or blogs) that the liberals finally got their wish and other comments about political correctness being the real reason he was fired.
The papers will say whatever sells. It's rubbish and they know it.

And the important issue is political correctness going too far according to some. For that reason the other 2 cases were mentioned by me.
If that's important it deserves attention without the distraction of discussion about the (alleged) assault then.

I think the "political correctness" element is being brought up by people who don't want their TV program to end but know they can't come up with a real defence for Clarkson's actions (or want to stir things up further to make money).

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

Clarkson can be hilarious, but he is clearly a dick.

Half of the reason why he's funny is because he's a dick.

You cannot go around punching your producer and then be surprised when you are fired.

If it was serious, the police would have been called and Jeremy would be in jail. He is not. Clearly it wasn't serious. This is a political move by the BBC.

I read that Clarkson wanted out anyway to do other things and this was as good a way to get out as any.

And he's taking BBC2's highest rated show and millions of fans worldwide with him. Screw the BBC.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

No way !!

He's the best part of the show.

Hey Jeremy, you're welcome to come to America and bring James and the " American " and start a new.

No, no, no, please not. I love Top Gear America with Tanner Faust, Rutledge Wood and Adam Ferrara, there is no need to add Clarkson to this excellent trio or worse, replace one of the three with Clarkson.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

Well hoping that someone will die is not a death threat and fully protected by the 1st amendment in America unlike some of the backwards European countries

There are also people who call for people to join him in looking the man up and physically assault the man. Also some have stated that they want to go and kill him/threats to kill him. That does not sound like freedom of speech but death threats.

I don't think they are.

Remember the episode where they were only allowed factual information to be given out if they were allowed to work in the country?

Do you really think the US would allow them to come in and film a similar show that is being filmed right now?

I don't think Ashton Kutcher knows enough about cars to take over that show.

I definitely have to laugh at those three being described as an excellent trio.

Well, there's always Dr. Who.

"The US" has no say, they can come here and film anything they want to film and "the US" can do nothing about it. The United States has nothing to do with what is filmed for television.

Well, there's always Dr. Who.

Which, under Steven Moffat, is utter crap.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

The BBC will try - success will depend on the new partnership brought in as James May has made it clear the presenters are part of a package with Clarkson so ruling himself out of staying.
Top Gear existed before Clarkson and when he became a presenter there it was a dull factual show focused on reviewing cars. Clarkson and his producer together made changes that made the show popular. The shows is now a comedy show with a bit of car review dotted here and there.

That's the challenge - make a car review show more about reviewing cars (and thus dull) or focus on the satire and interpersonal side of the show which seems to have appealed worldwide.

That said - Top Gear was never popular enough in the UK (even under Clarkson) to make it to BBC1. It's one of those strange phenomena where the show is more popular overseas than at home. If Clarkson goes to commercial telly, the name "Top Gear" stays with the BBC unless it is bought by commercial TV.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

I don't see how someone being fired for physically attacking a co-worker falls under the "political correctness" label.

.

More like the Three Stooges - never liked the show at all.

Contrary to how things work on the illegal side of things, a non citizen has to have a work permit to work in the US.

I don't know if Clarkson or the other 2 would be given the work permits as there are Americans that can do that same work.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

You have to understand that some sort of understanding may excuse some behavior but violence is not one of them, come to think of it neither is showing of prejudices.

The fans just don't care. Look for the show on another network.

Yes and I'm sure that they would be doing things entirely legally and above board. You seem to think that because some crappy History channel in the U.S. is licensing the name "Top Gear" from the BBC and making a wholly inferior show on every conceivable level, that three British people cannot come to the U.S. and make another TV show because the U.S. somehow has a stake in stopping them. There are British actors making movies and TV shows in Hollywood every second of every day. Don't be daft.

I don't think that he knows enough about comedy to take over any show...

Well that is true, but the experiment is now done.

What they did to Two and a Half Men is weird...

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

The guy assaults his producer and is fired for it...and you call that 'political correctness'?

Okay.

Re: Jeremy Clarkson booted of Top Gear UK, political correctness strikes in the UK to

Let's get to the heart of the issue.

The BBC absolutely, 110% made the right decision, I say this as a Clarkson Fan.

Take away all other factors and the headline reads.

"Man fired after assaulting co-worker".

End of story.

Clarkson knew it, the BBC knew it and the public should understand it.

Weird as in make it slightly more or less crap than it already was?

And all those British actors are here on work visas. However, Clarkson and rest will have no problem receiving work visas for filming here in the US.

That's not the end of it. The public wants that show and they want Clarkson to be a part of it. That's the ONLY factor that counts outside of the BBC leadership.
