Should hospitals be forced to give emergency care to the poor?

if they refuse to cure you it really means an agression .

If you walk into a grocery store...or a restaurant...demand food because you are starving...and they turn you away because you cannot pay...is that an aggression toward you?

Perhaps the government should pass a law requiring grocery stores and restaurants to feed anyone who is starving.

This law was passed by the doG of today's GOP, Reagan--in case today's version of what Cons think they are has forgotten .

there are agencies and non-profits that can help get people some food or temporarily shelter, but the same can't be said about life threatening or even fairly routine medical conditions or procedures. I can go somewhere tonight and get a meal but I can't just go and have emergency surgery. A few dollars can hold me over with basic food but if I catch the flu followed by pneumonia and need to go to the hospital my options should not be massive debt or death if I can't afford the medical help. We need to come up with a better way.

I disagree. If you go to the hospital and request their services, you should pay them for the services you receive.

there are food stamps for you if you need.

In a black and white world I would agree but again say you live paycheck to paycheck and the company you work for has no insurance plan for you. Your appendix ruptures and you have no choice but to go to the hospital for surgery. How does the hospital truly expect someone that is already living paycheck to paycheck to afford a bill that could easily be between $10,000 and $50,000? In many cases the bill is more than a person could make in a year or two and if they can't afford it an are turned away you are basically guaranteeing their death. How is that a fair process? How is that morally correct coming from a society that claims to be faithful and moral? I'm not saying that there shouldn't be any sort of payment, but to consider having a pay or die medical policy is pretty evil to me.

Okay, let's say that.

It changes absolutely nothing. That's your problem. You should pay them what you owe them for services rendered.

That's no way to run a business.

Right but are hospitals in existence to only make a profit or are they in business to provide medical care as well? Is that care only for the people that can afford it or should there be a way so that all citizens have equal access to medical attention?

There is Medicare and Medicaid if you need.

But we still don't have that law for the grocery stores like we have the one for the ER's.

There are agencies and non-profits that can help people get some medical treatment.

Yet, we still don't have laws that require groceries to hand out food for free.
