So what? He wrote a blank check to the US Government for up to and including his life.

Well, that was just silly. My last tour in Afghanistan I made my captain promise that I would receive nothing with a V, nothing purple, and nothing that said "combat,' "bravery," or "courage."

Indeed. There's absolutely not a single thing wrong with this picture.

What? Are you ****ing kidding me?

With all the supporting posts here, so who's pounding the hell out of the poll skewing it's results? Seems awfully lopsided.

You have to clear cookies, or possibly not accept them in the first place. or it's a bot, but who has time for dat?

Not sure what's silly? And while noble, why would you do that?

Signing a blank check for your life is just silly. I value my life.

I think you misunderstand. we signed on the line knowing full well that we could be put in mortal jeaopardy and do so voluntarilly, now some admin pog's probably a little farther away from this than you, but so what, they took that same oath. respect.

And how are you thinking I was noble?

What you asked for was noble, but not really neccessary. later on in life that **** can count for something. trust ,me.

I never did that voluntarily.

I'm still not getting why you think requesting to avoid anything remotely dangerous is noble.

yes, yes I am, and I didn't sit behind a desk, and no, it doesn't make you less of an American than me, but to denegrate those who signed that blank check if you didn't well, I find that far more offensive than anything you could do to a flag.
Denegrate? LOL, I was raised by a WWII combat vet of the south pacific. I live in a military town, work with vets that very recently were in combat, most of my family is buried at Arlington.

Nah man, There's nothing I want. I simply wanted to point out what liberty and freedom is vs your panties in a wad over some navy dood cradling his baby in the flag.

Also pointing out that if you haven't served, you have nothing to say on how this guy serves/served.
Hang on, read my first post on the issue. I am not offended at the pic at all. And I said as much.

So? You did none of those things and suggested the guy who "did" was somehow less of value based on speculation.

Then why were you talking **** about the dood? Did i misunderstand you as well?

What have I said other than flag etiquette does not change from military to civilian. A vet or current member has no more business disrespecting the flag than anyone else, but I don't find this particular deal a disrespect.
You seem to be looking for something to be offended about.

Negative. Never said that. Lemmee guess, you are one of those that want the clear distinction of warrior class or veteran class to be separate from the civilian class.

Not really. I simply took exception of one who didn't critiquing one who did's service. If thats not what you meant, no problem, thats how it read.

I didnt, on purpose anyway. I misunderstood you. Could you clarify?

I wrote "My last tour in Afghanistan I made my captain promise that I would receive nothing with a V, nothing purple, and nothing that said "combat,' "bravery," or "courage."" You called that "noble."
So I requested to avoid anything that could result in receiving a "V" device, or a purple heart, or a combat action badge, or anything else where the citation would be for anything hazardous. And you called that noble but unnecessary.

You know....having to explain a joke kills it.

Ahh got it. Thought you were saying no matter what happened you didnt want the special recognition. My bad

Well I'll be damned....we see eye to eye on something, are
the five horsemen of the Apocalypse
saddling up their horses?

In the Bible The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are riding on white, red, black and pale horses.

What is the color of the horse that your fifth horseman is riding on?

It's an Appaloosa!

So if he wants to wipe his ass with it, you are fine with that? Just because he served. How about others that didnt serve. You fine with flag burning as a form of free speech?

I am. So is/was the Supreme Court. I like the first amendment and don't see a need to make an exception to it for a mass produced symbolic object.

I do not think the flag should be used as a prop.

You see it as a prop. I see it as a service member being so proud of it that he's willing to wrap his infant in it. All depends on your perspective, I guess.

How do you feel about the flag being draped on the caskets of veterans?

PS Methinks somebody has hacked the poll. 5,500 are offended? Hmmm.

Offended? No. Consider it seriously inappropriate? Yes. Worth making a big deal over? Not really.

This is, like, the fourth time in the last month or so that you have said something that is entirely reasonable and correct. Please stop, you're giving me vertigo :p.

I think ALL flag laws are beyond stupid.

They are symbols, not living things

It's legal to beat your child (spanking) but illegal to do certain things with a piece of cloth that is a flag

Ridiculous.

Exactly. It's a piece of cloth that acts like symbol for the country. I view it as just a worthless piece of cloth with a butt ugly design on it, while other people view it as something to honor and respect. It's really just down to someones personal opinion and not something that should find it's way into law.
