Lawyer In California Proposes Killing Gays With 'Sodomite Suppression Act'

A lawyer in California has submitted a ballot initiative with the state Department of Justice calling for the death of anyone who engages in sodomy in the state, the San Diego Gay & Lesbian News reports.

The proposal by Matt McLaughlin, who lists his address in Huntington Beach, was received by the initiative coordinator at the Office of the Attorney General on Feb. 26. Enclosed was a $200 check and the complete text of his "Sodomite Suppression Act." The act outlines seven measures relating to those who engage in same-sex sodomy, "a monstrous evil that Almighty God, giver of freedom and liberty, commands us to suppress on pain of our utter destruction even as he overthrew Sodom and Gomorrha."

Joke, or serious?

No matter if it is a joke or not, in today's social and political climate it is unlikely for this to go anywhere meaningful once in the hands of the public. I hope it is a joke, not a very good one either.

Ah, lighten up people. It's a joke!

Or rather, we ought to treat it like a joke, whether or not the guy meant it. He's either got shockingly poor taste in jokes, or he's a small minded bigot, and one way or the other deserves ridicule.

There are three operative words that should provide all the clues necessary.

"Lawyer in California"

Enough said.

Maybe just prevent from reproducing. After all, they claim to be born that way.

Any individual wackjob with $200 can propose an initiative so he may be serious. There ARE people who think gays should be executed. He certainly won't get the signatures needed.

If it's a joke, why would someone spend $200 on something so stupidly unfunny?

Same guy that in 2003 wanted a referendum for the State to supply King James Bible so all public school students grade 1 - 12.

I have no doubt that the guy is very sincere. However, this isn't going anywhere, especially in California.

Tell us more about people you think the government should sterilize.

Rather than a joke, I'd say the more likely situation is he is trying to demonstrate a point about the ballot measure system, or church and state separation, or something along those lines.

Or he actually believes it.

Death by Bongo!

Not the ballot measure system. Referendum system. But I do see this as a possibility. And I hope that this is the reason. Otherwise the guy deserves whatever backlash that this is going to initially create.

The text of the bill:

"The abominable crime against nature known as buggery..."

:lamo Who the hell even says that anymore? Lol. What a nut.

If this is true, then the man needs to be sent to the loony bin for being absolutely and totally insane.

In california, nuttiness in politicians is expected

You have claimed they are unable to reproduce.

How was Jesse Booth able to vote for both of the first two choices in the poll?

Any ideas?
