Hey, that's racist. :2razz:

Hey there's white people in Da Hood too. Not only that, there's a separate 'Hood' that's almost all white, and its worse than the minority Hood. Darn meth-heads...

Yes, there is racism against white people in general in America. Some kind of systemic idea where all white people are affected by racism? No. But just a general question of whether or not there is racism against white people? Yeah. Undoubtably yes.

There exist social forms of racism. As in racism that involves person to person relations. However, there is no institutional racism against white people in the US.

Or I could've just not bothered to post and reposted this.

I have a friend. She once shared with me that she doesn't believe interracial marriages are a good idea. Because of the children. Because of this. Because of that. Then I reminded her that her own husband is Hispanic. You should have seen her face. LOL. In her mind race was black or everything else not black and black was not good in most circumstances.

She's still a good friend just being privately honest. Nobody got hurt. We laughed about it afterwards. No innocent person got sent to jail (and a lot did prior to DNA testing,) Nobody was unfairly denied a promotion or pay raise but IMHO her views likely represent a significant number of people who don't have a black friend they feel safe enough to be honest with about their true gut level opinion of blacks and likely no other race except blacks.
Until sometime in the mid 20th century Hispanics were counted as white by the US Census.

Methinks it's awfully brave (or funny) that this thread started while Ecofarm is not here to just ruin the entire thread.

But to answer the OP, yes there is racism in all forms. Obviously. Whites against blacks, blacks against whites, Asians against whites, blacks against Asians, etc -- yes. There is racism. It will always be there. To dance around a field of lillies, with flowers in your hair, and hope that all racism will eventually be eradicated is a silly waste of time, and all you'll end up doing is crushing a bunch of flowers. There will always be racism. Nothing will stop it. Ever. You will always have people who feel that they are better than others based on skin color, ethnicity, etc, and that, by definition, is racism.

Now I had a friend who made the apparent mistake, as a white woman, of marrying a black man. The black females in our church were rather terrible to her over that.

Yea black women do tend to get hot about that. Not all of course, but it is a sore spot in race relations.

Jill Scott wrote an article for Essence magazine that dealt with why black women hate white women who marry black men. Personally, I think that the article is racist in and of itself, because she thinks that white women have no right taking the educated black men that otherwise would be marrying black women. Who gives a **** who marries who? She was all like, "The white women get the educated, upwardly mobile black man while we get stuck with the rest," and I think that's bull****.

Yea, pretty much how I see it.

The membership on this forum is primarily white. ;)

racism against whites happens constantly. example-yesterday I was helping the manager at the target range where I shoot, stock the vending machines. she was noting she hated going to SAMS rather than Costco because of the "racism". She is white and noted at Sams, the mainly black staff made her put all the products she was buying up on a counter rather than scanning it while was in the large cart. She said blacks with the same amount of stuff didn't have to do that.

The OJ verdict proved to me that race trumps gender. Here was OJ, a now proven wife beater, and probable ex-wife murderer*, and when he was acquitted black women overwhelmingly cheered. Honestly, that floored me.

I do not know if this is true or not, but I have heard say that black women don't like white women who marry black men because they take away the better black men from them. If so, it's more of a jealously thing, it seems.

Yet, it seems counter to what is always preached to us that race shouldn't matter.

*- Most people, including myself, believe he did it, but I accept the verdict.

I don't vote in these, there's almost no point anymore.
Change the word to 'bigotry' and I'd vote yes. 'Racism', to me, implies expression of racial superiority as a matter of policy (personal, company, government, whatever). Racism, by my thinking, is pretty rare but bigotry is everywhere. Probably everyone is a bigot.

edit- I'm not sure if I'm'left wing' but I'm as liberal as all get-out.

We call dat Da Hoodie.

YES. See, that's exactly what Jill Scott said - that white women take the better, more educated, settled black men while black women have to take the ones with no job, 5 babies by 5 baby mommas, etc. It's just jealousy. That's why I said that race will always matter. You will never get away from it, because you will always have somebody separating by color.

* I don't think he was stupid enough to do it himself, but I do believe he paid someone else to do it.

This was around 2000.

Her husband is very Latin looking. He couldn't pass for white. To be honest, she was likely envisioning a stereotype of culture when she made the remark, not ethnicity.

Of course . . . .
being a newbie I'm wondering if this spawned from something else because how could anybody ever answer no.

In a concentrated area, so that it's noticeable and not just 1-2 idiots? Sure, go to south chicago or other majority-minority areas and a white person might even feel threatened. Outside of those enclaves however, they really don't have any power at all, so why does it matter? It's not like the south chicago residents will put a stop to outrageously discriminatory frisking policies in other states.

Even where the minority is in the majority, the white residents are often not the targets of police corruption, as in ferguson. Of course, this will only build the animosity against the white minority

Just as many whites cheered the verdict because he was an elite football player. Why did white women cheer for mike tyson the rapist? If you ask me, it's more celebrity trumps justice and compassion

What harm can those with no power do to those who have all of the power? Fill us in.
Oh , come on now .. Simply walk thru an "all black" neighborhood at night , causing the "power" to suddenly shift .. Of course, no sane man does this ..OR , less insane , attend an all black church service on a Sunday morn, as I did once ..A strange , but uncomfortable feeling, caused by guilt feelings .. this should not be , but is .. Here again, the Blacks have the "power", but do not use it in any sort of violent manner ...nor do I believe that they are employing any racism , intentionally ..
It would help ever so much if we would attend AME services as a habit and then socialize..

Yes. But it is not institutionalized like it is against African Americans.

Does racism against white people exist? Sure. Is it a problem for white people? No. While individuals may on very rare occasion discriminate against me in some manner, practically no public or large business institutions will, and that's a big plus for being me.
