Where I grew up "Jigaboo" always meant n*****: "Jungle Bunny": same thing.

That Fox News idiot knew what was being said.

Big difference between an affiliate of the Fox network and Fox News and it's not a bit surprising you don't know that.

I voted "Other" because the decision to suspend her was made by her managers, and that's up to them what works for them.

If I was her manager I would not have suspended her because it's very obvious she had no idea that that word was once relatively commonly used as a negative name for black people. No way did she know that. She probably heard one of her grandparents say it years ago and it stuck in her mind. It's amazing what we remember at the oddest times.

This will be forgotten in a few days and she'll be back, and in 6 months nobody will even know who she is anymore.

"Fox News idiot". Amazing irony in his post.

Why do these people not understand the difference between the network that drives them crazy (Fox News) and a local television station? And why do they embarrass themselves making stupid posts so that we all see it?

I like how you put "Fox" in the title as a way to tickle the ears of those who love to hate it.

I wonder how interesting this story would be to people if the word was uttered on air by a local ABC anchor.

Reminds me of the various controversies about the word "niggardly" some people with nothing better to do need to complain about something.

"Tar Baby" is another term that people have been crucified over despite its origins being in actual Africa-African folk tales.

Is this one of those "If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is around to hear it..." questions?

Very distressing to those of us who resent our ideas' expressions being limited by those who are ignorant. I still remember where I was the very last time I used the word "niggardly" and the shock on people's faces because they thought I'd used the n-word. :(

I believe she didn't know what it meant but I think a three day suspension is just fine. When your job is to communicate for a living you should know the meaning of the words you choose to use on air. I certainly don't think she should be fired.

This is fair. Gives her the benefit of the doubt, but doesn't allow for her to go unpunished.

i saw the video, and i don't think she knew the meaning of the word. should have just had an on air, non scripted apology with an explanation that she had no idea what the word meant.

Oddly enough the most use of the word jigaboo was to describe black music as 'jigaboo music'. which usually was accompanied by hand gestures showing movement and what notAnd in the video the news anchor used jigaboo just as it has been used for many years: In a derogatory way to describe music. Its a good thing that gaga isnt black or they would have burned her (news anchor) at the stake by now.
If Gaga WERE black or her music was ethnic related, some of the poutrage might make sense.

Fox News is Fox News dude. We have a local affiliate here too and they bill themselves as Fox News. So, you don't know what you're talking about.

I agree, they should have given her the benefit of the doubt, aired an apology on top of her own apology and that would have been enough IMHO.

If you dont know what the word "jigaboo" means you probably should not be journalist or a news anchor...
