Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

It will be a presidential campaign issue in 2016. Where do you stand on the issue?

Legal for all adults.

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

Oh I agree, that it won't be used for that, and ultimately it shouldnt, but if we have a gov truly concerned for the health of drug users, I'd rather see the money go to treatment.

As far as "skyrocketing use", can you extapolate the data you want me to see? thing is huge. Any increase is a honeymoon period, you'll see the same with cuban cigars as they are made available.

Addiction to marijuana?

what's the withdrawal like? how many people are currently addicted?

I'm still curious about this "marijuana addiction".
"It is estimated that 9 percent of people who use marijuana will become dependent on it.10,11 The number goes up to about 17 percent in those who start using young (in their teens) and to 25 to 50 percent among daily users.12,13 According to the 2013 NSDUH, marijuana accounted for 4.2 million of the estimated 6.9 million Americans dependent on or abusing illicit drugs." Is marijuana addictive? | National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
That accompanies greater levels of potency "Marijuana potency as detected in confiscated samples, has steadily increased over the past few decades.2 In the early 1990s, the average THC content in confiscated cannabis samples was roughly 3.7 percent for marijuana and 7.5 percent for sinsemilla (a higher potency marijuana from specially tended female plants). In 2013, it was 9.6 percent for marijuana and 16 percent for sinsemilla.16 Also, newly popular methods of smoking or eating THC-rich hash oil extracted from the marijuana plant (a practice called “dabbing”) may deliver very high levels of THC to the user. The average marijuana extract contains over 50 percent THC, with some samples exceeding 80 percent."

To say nothing of the things people are doing to chemically boost the 'high' by lacing marijuana with crack, pcp, formaldehyde (for the love of God), meth, bath salts, etc.

And you will note...I stated already there IS no detox protocol (nor need) for detox for marijuana addicts (provided they are not regularly using with other drugs). There IS treatment for marijuana addiction but that is usually a cog/behavioral treatment accompanied with some form of med treatment for depression and expected increases of anxiety.

Most violent drug crimes happen due to the black market. You have some libertarian leanings, I concede, but you have a hefty authoritarian streak in you, imo.

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

Wont happen.

Unless you get lucky and places like Mississipi suddently go up in smoke and disapear from the face of the earth and relieve mankind from the burden of it`s existance.

Mississippi has the largest Legal medical marijuana field in the nation. Just FYI. Should look that up!

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

There is medical narcotic, which neither are and what the United States decided was a narcotic after William Randolf Hearst helped get some friends elected.

Alcohol and Marijuana do not affect the pleasure receptors in the same way and are both low on the actual physical addiction scale

Nicotine is arguably a narcotic

It is true that I have never met anyone addicted to Marihuana, there are a number of alcoholics that have been through the cleaning process a few times among my aquaintences and friends.

This reads like "reefer madness".

What is the condition of "marijuana addiction"? what are the effects, and what is the withdrawal like? are they worse than say... Caffeine?

9% who use it become dependent? is that addiction or "Dependence"?

Mississippi

In 2014, along with a slew of other traditionally conservative states, Mississippi passed a law allowing for the limited use of certain types of medical marijuana.

Hardly a year ago and only limited and for certain types.

So no. Mississipi is still the ass end in the Southernistan.

Cool...

But that's irrelevant to what I just said. I said it has the largest legal medical marijuana field in the US.

field???

What do you mean?

A field can mean many things from an actual field to a scientific field.

It's a scientific field, I'm pretty sure. They also have a giant lab too to study hydro weed at Ole Miss.

First off.

A state doesnt have a field of science. A field of science belongs to the entire global scientific community. Fakulties within universities or private research institutions own research departments in a field of science.

Second.

Which university or private research institution?

I gave you links to sites. Would info from SAMSA help? Cannabis | SAMHSA Maybe the APA? Medicine or menace?

Read them or dont. Are you just like itching for a fight or something? I mean...if so that would be really stupid considering I am not opposed to legalizing marijuana and have always said so.

No, that would be Germany.

I'm not fighting you, I am just not seeing it. 91% have no problems with it, some MAY become dependent but that doesn't tell me anything. Quite frankly I think it's bunk, "medicine or madness"? lol come now.

Based on your opinion vs at least three of the top organizations in the field and extensive studies. Again...I really dont know what you are on about or looking for. You dispute the legitimacy of marijuana addiction but have no frame of reference beyond your own experience. If you care to understand what their position is, read them. If not...dont.

I dispute it because it's not explained very well, seems very rare, and made to seem worse than it is.

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

I believe the government should go a step beyond legalization and force us to consume marijuana and reggae music in regularly monitored intervals.

"shakes head". You're taking this way too seriously. Ole Miss grows the most pot for medical purposes in the country. Just pointing it out. No need to go ham on me.

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

should be illegal but no worse then alcohol but since people love their drugs it probably dose more harm then good to ban it

Re: National Legalization of Marijuana

Should it be an election issue at the national level in 2016? No, I don't think it should. However, I believe people will make it a national issue. Every serious candidate will have to address the question of legality to the satisfaction of the public. I realize that much of the GOP is against legalization, but young people are the future and the GOP cannot continue to bet its future on old white guys. GOP candidates will be forced to take a position on marijuana. The Democratic candidates will as well.
