Nobody likes the idea of reboots, revivals or long winded sequels AKA The Hobbit trilogy. Pirates 4, transformers 4 etc...

Nobody likes big blockbuster franchises even though they make millions

Films with original ideas (people say they want) do not make it big at the box office. With rare exceptions in recent years.

So is it because Hollywood is too polarized? I find that I only choose to go watch certain movies that I expect to be good. Namely the big brands and franchises that I know everyone will be talking about. And in recent months exclusively Marvel. I hated just about every oscar nominated movie in the past few years mostly because they had a "powerful [but empty] statement" that didn't appeal to me. These days, I'd rather invest my time in a TV show where things are more thought out, more creative, and more character driven. Better yet are books! So many books so little time!

Even films like American Sniper (which I haven't seen) and Lone Survivor you'd expect would appeal to me, but they don't either. I don't like the politics swirling around those titles either. This even had my questioning why I ever watched The Interview.

If you don't believe me, a Hollywood insider by the name of George Lucas also shared my suspicions. He said that Hollywood is getting, "more and more circus without any substance behind it." George Lucas Rips Hollywood, ‘Stupid’ Cat Videos at Sundance | Variety

What say you. Also please don't be like my Uncle and say only films from the 1950s were good. That is not this discussion.

George Lucas is complaining about the circus? This is the guy who gave the world Jar Jar Binks, and he's complaining?

Very topical. Friday I got a polling call about entertainment choices. at first I thought it was a scammy call so I was lying giving the answers that were least likely to result in me being asked to donate to something at the end, but it wasn't. I realized it was because I have ordered movies online through a site that distributes a certain type of feel-good movies that my mom likes.

"Hollywood" is too generic so I voted no. They are out there if you look for them. I am possibly in a few of them as some straight to DVD in Japan type independent movies film in my area from time to time and they need people to volunteer to be in them because they are so no budget. There is a lot of variety out there, and in addition, there is so much really good TV going on these days that it is in someways better than indies of yesteryear.

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Plenty of enjoyable films coming out.

You are in Bellville, there are a ton of independent theaters in NYC.

There is also:

Tribeca

There are a ton of good movies still, but it aint in hollywood, hollywood is following a dumbed down formula to make simple money.
