For a few reasons.

1. No reputable breeder would ever sell a puppy to anyone who hasn't been thoroughly checked out, including knowing the home and either doing a home visit or having someone else do it
2. Most puppies sold over the internet (and in pet stores) come from puppy mills

AKC is a meaningless designation. It doesn't regulate the safety and security of puppies nor the safety of the breeding stock. Any purebred can get an AKC registration.

What's a "puppy mill?"

You get the idea.

This offends SO many Americans that they pulled it?

It is offensive to put a puppy up for sale on the internet?

Jeez, I thought they were going to throw the puppy in a microwave and eat it for supper the way people were reacting to it.

I didn't think it was hilarious...but offensive? Giver me a break. It's an ad for the Super Bowl, not Sesame Street.

Too many Americans are so bloody touchy with NO sense of humor.

And I guarantee you that most people that are offended by this are not even going to watch the Super Bowl.

Gordon Gekko: That's the one thing you have to remember about WASPs: they love animals and hate people.

Sadly, euthanasia is actually the best and only good thing that happens to thousands of puppy mill dogs.

If anything can be learned from this ad is please, don't buy puppies or dogs from a breeder, get them from a shelter, please adopt. That is the best thing to do to fight this problem. Make this business non-profitable and they will go away.

Adopt...don't shop. It's been my motto for years since I learned the truth. Amen, Star!

I haven't bought anything from the Amish either since I learned about their deeds. You have a lot of mills in your area. Luckily we don't have many here in New England.

It's not offensive. It's kinda cute and sorta funny at the end, but they did the right thing by pulling it. Selling dogs online is a really bad idea. Or any other pets for that matter.

Yeah, there was a big story on the news about a huge puppy mill that got busted sometime last year. Makes me so sad. :( I can't wait to get my own place so I can go adopt a dog, and save them from the shelter. An older one, too. The ones that most people just look past. You can find the best dogs that way.

OMG! Poor things! :boohoo: Isn't there anyone that oversees that animals are treated humanely in this business?

I'm talking about the GoDaddy superbowl commercial that they just decided to pull

Sure, it's kind of twisted but I really don't see anything to get pissed off about.

It's mean to puppies.

When a business is selling beings, unless that being is expected to do hard work, they're not really looking into the actual health of the being. The average American slave owner took better care of his slaves than many of these dog farms take care of a dog's health.

Seriously?

they pulled that?

Only objectionist left wing cranks would object to that. I had tears in my eyes.

based on this, that old favorite TV show "The Littlest Hobo" about a stray mutt wandering the countryside would have been censored.

What do they think, everyone is as stupid as they are and we need to be protected from a ****ing feeling? Time for "progressives" to grow the **** up.

I agree. All this excessive political correctness is turning the nation into a bunch of thin skinned wimps.

But that's not the sort of place that was portrayed in the commercial.

I agree. Puppy mills like that, which mistreat their animals need to be shutdown and the owner / operators need to be fined and / or jailed, based on animal abuse if nothing else.

I once had a puppy that looked exactly like that. I was 6 yrs old and we had the little guy for a week when we all loaded up in the car to go to grandma's house. The dog was on the floor in the back seat with me, when my sister slammed the car door. Somehow the puppy had stuck his head outside of the car and my sis had crushed the dogs head with the car door. Needles to say I got to witness the little guy die right between my legs on the car floor.. Anyways, I seen nothing wrong with the ad.

You may have seen my thread around Christmas time about adopting a senior shelter cat for my youngest son. We named him Specklebang (the cat, not my son). He had been at the shelter forever. Everyone wants the kittens and the puppies. Nobody wants the seniors - except you & me. I'm with you - I love to take in seniors.

I hate puppy mills. I hate puppy farmers. Passionately.

You have a big heart. I like that.

Hi Pol. Nope. The USDA is supposed to oversee breeders, but they're as efficient as any other government agency, and they grant licenses to any jackass who says "I wanna breed puppies. Woo!"

Puppy mills and terrible breeders sell puppies over the internet. The joke in the ad was "Good, you're back, because I just sold you over the internet with my GoDaddy site". Honestly, there is nothing positive about selling a puppy over the internet and the only breeders who do that are bad breeders. Terrible treatement, overbreeding, horrible conditions aren't just limited to the mills. And the mills sell their puppies to pet stores and buyers over the internet.

I don't know about offensive. However there is the potential that people see it as GoDaddy supporting dog breeding in its horrid and absolutely shameful state. If GoDaddy really did make this ad without looking at the way so many kennels operate and how these dogs are bred for their looks - with little disregard for their health - it was downright irresponsible of them. Still, not something I would call "offensive".

What's wrong with dog breeding???

The reason there all different breeds of dogs is specifically because of dog breeding. In fact, but for selective breeding there would basically be no dogs, only wolves.

I think you confuse dog breeding with "puppy mills." Even then, the only bad puppy mills are the bad ones, if "puppy mill" means breeding dogs for profit. All domesticated animals are breed for purpose and for profit, directly or indirectly.

Yes....but they're understaffed and underfunded for the duties they are tasked with.

Or at least probably.

And of course the puppy mills don't advertise their location and practices, for obvious reasons.

I've heard about puppy mills in my state - usually when the department tasked with enforcement finds one, or something....

What's wrong with dog breeding???

Nothing. What is wrong is the present state of dog breeding. Specifically, the kind that goes into pedigree animals. For one, the massive health problems that come hand in hand with these dogs because owners breed brothers and sisters over and over again. I've given up on buying dogs because of the terrible conditions of some breeds. I can't consciously support buying animals bred for their looks. Animals bred as substinance for human beings? Animals bred for work? Sure. Animals bred for dog shows and looking perfect? Nope.

And no respectable or legitimate breeder breeds dogs for profit or looks. All respectable breeders breed for the betterment of the breed.

You sound like a mutt man.

No argument here, but the surprise ending is what got a chuckle out of me.

I agree, bad breeders / over breeders, etc. are doing the poor animals a disfavor, and who only knows what sort of potential behavioral problems you get with the puppy you get from there. The breeders from who I get a dog from actually perform interviews of the people before they'll sell one (I've always passed the interview test). I know. My brother breeds Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and do those types of interviews.

We just lost a Ridgie in the spring. He was a rescue, and we loved him to death.

I'm not an Evangelical animal rescuer and seldom post about it. In fact I usually avoid the subject because I don't want people to argue with me about it. I tend to keep my mouth (fingers?) shut on the matter. I don't approve of most breeders. I'll leave it at that.:)
