Are men really more stupid than women? Letting brawn rule over brain?

Are men really more stupid than women when it comes to their own safety?

That's probably the testosterone factor at play. Testosterone tend to make one more aggressive physically, and daring is just an extension of that trait. I am more likely to overthink and drive myself crazy, than to physically act, and put my life at risk. It's just a difference in tendencies, and it seems that women tend toward a more introspective impulse, and men toward action.

I'm inclined to agree. And I think it's testosterone that fuels the "alpha dog"/"king-of-the-mountain" impulse.

Well..thanks..(I think!)..

I sometimes cringe at silverback males though..

And actually I don't fart..I'm English..

What about "bubble and squeak"? ;)

Yes, it is one of the characteristics the human kind seems to have since centuries (and maybe even ever since we started walking upright and the first one tripped and banged his/her head).

Where do you live in the Netherlands.....my partner works in Rotterdam..

What about "bubble and squeak"? ;)
That's the sound when you are frying up left over potatoes..cabbage..and you brown them..

Absolutely nothing to do with farting..English people don't fart as a rule..it is considered very bad etiquette..

When I first read the term, I asked an English colleague what it meant, and she explained about the potatoes and cabbage and smiled, "Oh, Nota, think about it...."

No I'm afraid ''bubble and squeak'' refers to the noises in the pan when you are frying it..absolutely nothing to do with ''farting''..

It's not exactly stupidity. Men are simply naturally more inclined toward physical risk. It's part of our natural hunting instinct. Some might call it stupid but you have to be that way if you're going to confront a moose with nothing more than a sharp stick.

That is why the questions is not "Men are more stupid then women!" but the question is "are men more stupid than women when it comes to their own safety?".

And objective facts from the journal have found that a lot more men die in stupid stunts than women do. Maybe it is stupidity that makes men more likely to die doing a stupid stunt or maybe it is something different.

Stupidity over ones safety is totally separate from the intelligence issue. A man/woman can be quite intelligent and still totally stupid when it comes to their own safety in stupid stunts.

Males show off for females throughout the animal kingdom.

That's probably the root of risky behavior.

I said, more stupid (aka more irresponsible, aka more reckless with no regard for their own safety or the safety of others) when compared to women.

But that isn't stupidity. That isn't lack of intelligence. That's irresponsibility. That's recklessness. These are different qualities.

Yes, but blowing yourself up if your own letterbomb comes back due to insufficient stamps is just stupid.

And it is not just for females. Men among themselves do insane stuff too.

Well, I call that more stupid than women when it comes to their own safety/health. Because stupid stunts have a tendency to kill or injure a lot of people and most of those performing those stupid stunts are men.

Look at Ridiculousness and the people that were nominated for the Darwin Award, a large percentage is men, that is just a fact of life.

But the bomb was sent originally to win the virgins, right? So maybe it was subconscious suicide.

And posturing is directed at both sexes. Just for different ends.

Men are better represented in the extremes and women are better represented at the average. Men are in fact smarter than women on average. Anyway, plenty of extremely smart individuals are risk takers. I have an IQ of 145 and I have done plenty of dumb things just because I wanted too. Ever been out surfing in a Hurricane? I have and it was ****ing awesome.

I Googled around, and what I've read confirms what you're saying. So I'm wondering if maybe this is an older-generation naughty joke. I'm not quite sure where in England my former colleague was born, but my vague sense is not far from London. Her late (and much older) husband's Wiki page says he was born in Norwich, Norfolk. Could this be a regional thing? I'm just really curious now.

But posturing of women does not often risk the life of that woman, posturing of men can cost lives.

That is why I did not say "men are stupid and women intelligent", I said that when it comes to their safety, men are more stupid than women.

I don't care which gender makes more stupid decisions. I tend to be an outlier from the male population, so I don't bother to compare myself to others in terms of popular averages. Never have, never will.

Other.

No.

And you could at least link the damn study cited at the beginning of the article.

I meant men posture for women and other men. Different desired outcomes usually, of course.

Well, I call that more stupid than women when it comes to their own safety/health.

Then you're using the string of characters s-t-u-p-i-d to refer to a different concept than it's usually taken to refer. You're using it to describe reckless or risky. Whereas usually it describes lack of intelligence. And then you're conflating those two uses in order to draw bad conclusions (men=brawn, women=brains, blah blah).

Men are more reckless than women when it comes to physical safety. Not less intelligent. Risky behavior isn't stupid. It's risky. Just because a person is willing to accept higher risks than you are willing to accept does not mean he/she is stupid. It means you disagree about what level of risk is acceptable.

Labeling people who have a higher risk tolerance than you as "stupid" shows an ironic lack of understanding on your part.

There's men who watch sports and then there's men who would never watch sports yet still manage to sleep with better looking women. Such is to say, your average man is a moron, yes.
