Why do we need a substitute?
You ought specify what we're talking about.
Moral codes? Community? The Universe?
- Virtue, deontological or consequentialist ethics.
- Civic groups.
- Cosmology.
at a moment in your life you may be questioning what will happen to you or why you are here
That doesn't require religion, nor a substitute there for. A little philosophy, a bit of metaphysics; that's the most necessary.
chocolate is good but you dont thank to WHO gave it to you....
welcome to the club
Culture and Philosophy, something you didn't put in your poll.
This is the case in Europe. Culture and philosphy has replaced religion. It is a spring of good fortune and progress ,but also a source of problem in regards to the more nefarious elements that have made their way into our society.
But religions are all-encompassing these days. As I indicated in my previous post, three examples off the top of my head of religion's scope are personal moral codes, communities and the theory of "existence." So a theist who becomes non-religious could replace his "religion" in a number of ways. He could replace his religious morals with a virtue-based ethical code; join a civic group like Rotary instead of a weekly prayer session and instead rely on cosmology (the science of the origins of the universe) instead of fairy tales.religions and god
I know who. A company. Employing jerks to make chocolate and then sell it to me at profit.
many atheists materialists still keep looking for some answers for the question marks in their minds.why we are here ,fear of loneliness, what will happen to me afterdeath etc...do you think they have inner serenity ?thats why you mentioned metaphysics

And given that no god talks to anyone or has any material effect upon the world, the concept doesn't need to be replaced by anything.
Metaphysics is a branch of philosophy dealing with innate morality. Why should it be avoided?
Aye, but you can have similarly secular virtue ethics. Aristotle's was.virtue ethics is a part of religions although many believers ignore it

Yes, of course. Humans question. That what makes us different; we will never have a full "answer" for every possible question asked.many atheists materialists still keep looking for some answers for the question marks in their minds.why we are here ,fear of loneliness, what will happen to me afterdeath etc...do you think they have inner serenity ?thats why you mentioned metaphysics

Usually it's politics.
