Bill Cosby - Rapist, or Victim ???

When it comes to sexual predators, we've learned it's no big deal for Demokrats... their party icon is one, and his miserable wife is complicit.

As the number of women to come forth with accusations it doesn't look good for Bill's entertainment value.
A few years my wife and I went to one of his lecture shows and it was terrific. So it is a shame that someone of his status could have this darker other side.
This is just too many women to shrug them all off as kooks.

I'm forced to consider the old adage "where there's smoke, there's fire". But 14 accusations and not one conviction makes him either extremely cautious or very diligent in covering up and paying off. A lot of famous and not so famous men go thru stages of compulsive behavior, though the more famous, usually the more scrutiny. I'd say it's possible but the numbers are probably not completely accurate. It'll also take a lot more evidence than hearsay accusations to indict him.

Rape is probably the most difficult crime to prove for numerous reasons.

1. Most victims never report the crime.
2. If they do report, many if not most report it long after there's any way to collect evidence.
3. Because of the private nature of sexual activity, it can often come down to his word against hers. Where there are no witnesses, equally credible claims cancel each other out.

Although probably not admissible in a trial, the best evidence the accuser is being truthful is multiple accusers all saying the same thing. This is especially true if they're sharing details other accusers had no way of knowing such as the reports that Michael Jackson called alcoholic beverages "Jesus Juice" to more than one accuser, information that was initially sealed when a subsequent accuser was deposed.

As someone who thinks Bill Cosby is an American hero, this news is very, very difficult for me to process. Do I think he's guilty? I don't know but I have to give weight to the high number of claims especially considering I'd expect nothing but admiration and accolades from anyone who had the privilege of meeting him, not that he's a monster.

My question awaits an answer: What is the average amount of rape allegations for a rich person or celebrity? Cosby has 14 allegations. Is that above or below average?

Why don't you google it, maybe there's a study out?

Unlikely. The point being is that there isn't an epidemic of women falsely accusing celebrities of rape. What makes Bill Cosby a target of rape allegations? From over a dozen separate women with no seeming connection other than Bill Cosby himself.

Well now Janis Dickenson is on the band wagon. So it all must be true.

I saw that. She says it happened in 1982 or something. And says "Of course I didn't report it".

I could be wrong, but wasn't 1982 at the height of her out of control drug and alcohol use when she was hanging out at Studio 54 doing lines of cocaine like there was no tomorrow?

Janice is always desperately trying to stay relevant. She needs to pay for her plastic surgery so she stops looking her age.

Sorry Janice, my coffee table has more credibility than you do.

I don't even know who Janis Dickenson is.
A number of rapes are never reported. It is too embarassing and often a tough one to prove so a lot of women rather not go through the process.
If all these accusations are truthful then he would be a serial rapist. I am waiting to hear from any of the young female actesses on his show come forth to support him or have accusations themselves.

She is a washed up model / attention ho.

Even if it's true, it makes him more of a sick person than a monster. And if it's true, the statute of limitations has ran out on those accusations from long go, unless something newer pops up. Being famous doesn't insulate someone from having the same problems that less fortunate people have. He's an almost 80yr old man now, though I hope the accusations are false he could've been twisted and hid it from everyone.

Janice Dickinson was a model in the 70s to early 80s. She was famous for her severe drug and alcohol addiction, and she was always photographed hanging around Studio 54 among other place. Snorted all her supermodel earnings away, had some failed marriages. Recently she was Celebrity Rehab. She also said her father was a pedophile.

Many hosts have cancelled his guests appearance. I don't think that's right. While I think he's guilty of 'something', allegations are not convictions!

Well if she was doing drugs and being promiscuous, of course rape is impossible.

I just had the thought that with these kind of things, the answer to the thread title question may be....neither.

Here’s a transcript of a portion of Cosby’s stand up routine:

When I was 13, man. Start talking about weird things. No, really. Standing on the corner: You know anything about Spanish Fly. What? Spanish Fly. It always happens when you’re 13, only when you’re 13 on up to when, like, you get married. Guys stand around talking about Spanish Fly … You know anything about Spanish Fly? No, tell me about it. Well, there’s this girl—Crazy Mary—you put some in her drink, man … ahhhhhh … yeah, Spanish … Oh, that’s really groovy man. Spanish Fly is groovy. Yeah boy. From then on, man, any time you see a girl: Wish you had some Spanish Fly boy. Go to a party, see five girls standing alone—boy, if I had a whole jug of Spanish Fly I’d light that corner up over there.[/QUOTE]

Rape allegations won't go away for Bill Cosby - CNN.com

What are your thoughts on Cosby?

Do you think it's possible that he's guilty of raping women?

Or is he a victim of false allegations?

Now I know there's the whole "innocent until proven guilty" thing - but I'm asking what your gut feel is regarding this stuff.

Anything is possible in the Hollyweird entertainment industry. It's definitely possible that he has committed rapes. However I do pose the question "Why now?" Why did this many women wait all of these years to suddenly holler rape at the same time? If he committed even one of the alleged rapes I hope he is prosecuted. However how many of these cases were actually consensual sex? How much of the sudden flow of revelations is political? He has made some moral statements that the left did not care for.

I don't think politics played any role in this. Finding it hard to believe that someone took the time to research women who had contact with him over the last 30 years and find around 15 who agreed to make these accusations. He is not even running for office. That is a far fetch conspiracy.

He certainly fits the typical profile of a rapist.

He's an asshole. My husband interacted with him a couple of times in California. Once, he saw him get a clerk fired from a bank because she screwed up his transaction. He stood there and yelled at her, and berated her, called her stupid, etc. If that wasn't bad enough, he called over her supervisor, and had her fired, under the threat of moving his money to another bank.

He's not this sweater-wearing, grandfatherly nice guy.

I think there are a lot of women out there that did not get from him what they wanted after they gave him sex. As a result, they are all sour and want revenge. When one allegation is made, they all start to come out of the woodwork for a spot in the spot light that they yearned for when they were sleeping with him and never got.

1) You answered your own questions as to why someone would wait years to report a rape ('Was it consensual? What's your motivation? Huh? HUH?').

2) Bill Cosby is not running for political office.

For the same reason some people waited 40 years to call out their priests for being pedophiles. For the same reason John Jamelske, Josef Fritzl, and Ariel Castro were able to get away with rape for decades before they were caught. Rape/sexual abuse has the effect of terrifying victims for long periods of time. That's what it's all about for a rapist though: power. Cosby, being in the position that he is, (which is basically Hollywood royalty) could have put many women in a position where they could be intimidated by his lawyers and dismissed by the general public. Who would believe that 'America's dad' was capable of molesting people. Wait... I'm getting something. Guess who else got caught doing something similar not too long ago?

If the guy from 7th Heaven who played a damn pastor is capable of molesting a kid, why not America's dad?
