Creepy Or Cute?

Is Andriod Girl Asuna Creepy or Cute?

Um, no. People have the oddest misconceptions about Japanese people...

No misconceptions. There has been a shift in their ability (or perhaps it's just willingness) to form intimate relationships, compared to previous generations.

First to pop up on a 10 second google search:

The big Tokyo Design Week Expo just happened, and the big talk coming out of it was about an android named Asuna, which some think might be the first step past the "uncanny valley" and is really cute. Others don't think she made it and is really creepy. So here she is, and what do you think:

It looks pretty human until it moves. Then it's firmly in uncanny valley territory.

That was not the misconception I was referring to.

if so they may fake orgasm like women:tongue4:

That's fine as long as it reassures me afterwards it didn't and that I'm the best its ever had.

I could not tell much from the brief video but if robots are the fashion models of the future then that is creepy.

hell they probably have more personality and intelligence than some fashion models!

Its interesting that with a growing population, widespread immigration and refugee problems and no plan for housing and feeding everyone some people think making artificial people is a worthy pursuit. Wouldn't lobotomies be cheaper?

we have enough Dem voters:mrgreen:

I think she's adorable, but I'm also incredibly impressed by the life-like quality they've achieved. Total coolness outweighs any potential creepiness! :)

not bad maybe a little creepy at times but I would do creepier things if left alone with it

It looks fine standing still (even if I can still tell that it's fake). Its movement, however, could use some work.

I find the way so many associate this with sex to be far more creepy than the robot itself. Interestingly, none of the Japanese sources I saw on this mentioned sex at all.

I agree. When you first glance, you see a somewhat cute girl but when it moves and there's just a blankness about her, no emotion or anything that's when it gets creepy.

I keep thinking that Japanese woman must be pretty up tight if Japanese men keep trying to make a better one they can control.

Where's the neither option?

The android's outer appearance.... cute, imaginations run wild...creepy, endless possibilities...priceless.

Not so much in that video, but in others, it's completely fake looking, especially when it talks. Speech is more than a mouth opening and closing.

Not sure. But I think the fact that people are debating it means we're moving closer to getting past the uncanny valley.

Not really cute or creepy...just interesting.

Hey, if/when they invent an affordable android that looks and sounds and interacts just like a human female of my choice...sign me up.

Very close. It is one of those things I really find fascinating to watch, and is what this exhibit was about(no, it isn't about sex to all you people with minds in the gutter). What really seems to be stopping it in this case is not hardware, but that they do not have the software controls really down yet to make the movements look quite right, and that should not take long to fix I would not think.

Creepy? Cute? What about "hot" as an option?
