The only reason I can see (CT aside) for the embargo to have gone on this long is if The Beard had something to do with JFK's assassination.

It's not like Nixon had beef with opening up China, or Reagan with the Soviet Union, we trade with Vietnam, so.... the arbitrarily decided "excuse" that 90 miles off our coast is just unacceptable and that is the reason we have an embargo is beyond ridiculous.

Open it up, and let's Mambo!!!!

What, are Cuban exiles the new Jews? Controlling the world despite being a tiny minority!

:lamo

Ah..we divert the subject i see.

That's OK you have every right to deflect the question :D

Feel free to start a thread about Pinochet. I'm not partaking in your deflection and apologizing for brutal dictatorship.

It's a brutal dictatorship run by the brother of the dictator that threatened the world with nuclear war.

Perhaps 5% of the population of Florida, less than .1% of US population, does not control foreign policy. Let's be real.

Acting like people don't know whom Batista was is ridiculous and has no bearing whatsoever on the Castros being horrible dictators.

Are you denying that Cuba is a brutal dictatorship?

It controls Cuban foreign policy. Like I said, 5% of Florida will win most Presidentiall lections.

:D :D. It's OK I'll let you get on with it. It's Sunday Morning here. Have fun :)

Oh, please. It's probably not even 5% and not all of them vote. This is no different than "the tiny minority Jewish population rules the world and they're evil!!11!!"

Yeah, yeah, an evil tiny minority is controlling the world to the detriment of us all. Nice CT.

Why did you capitalize 'morning'?

Well it's like Christmas Day..a special day...................

For enjoying the hedonistic pleasures of Coffee, Croissants newspapers, reading, gardening and sailing :D

What holiday? I'm with the gardening (see signature).

Cubans have decided they want communism. Let them keep it and its consequences until they see fit.

The Chinese have also decided they want communism, should we place an embargo on them and let them keep the consequences until they see fit as well?

The Chinese have historically been much less oppressive. If they start invading out allies and moving nukes to our neighborhood it will have consequences.

In the mean time, Cuba can rot socialist style.

We have communications with North Korea, good thing they are the pillar of Human Rights. There are so many countries around the world that oppress their citizens that we do nothing about, yet for some reason people have a fixation on Cuba. There are communist nations that we do not sanction, there are countries that are both communist and oppressive that we do nothing about, yet here we are back on Cuba. Cuba is an outdated attempt to assert our control over other countries where we should not an do not have any say. As to China, it is not exactly the pinnacle of Human Rights either. There are plenty of examples of political oppression and human and civil rights violations.

We maintain the embargo on Cuba for one reason ... because we can. And because neither party is willing to risk pissing off the small-but-electorally-crucial Cuban expat voting bloc in Florida.

I agree. The reason we do not sanction China is not because we approve of their actions, but because if we were to implement an embargo, we would lose the largest buyer of US debt among other things. We need China, we don't need Cuba, easy as that.

Oh terrific. I'm having problems with my lemon tree. I assume ther is a gardening sub forum ?:)

I think under Leisure Activities (I'm not sure wherein there, exactly, or if that's correct) are some threads about gardening.

Is it actually a holiday or just a special day for you?

So why not start with the commie nation that wants to play chess with us by allowing nukes into our own neighborhood?

You are kidding right?
Tiananmen Square ring any bells? Or the 55 crimes with a capital offence penalty?
Number 55 being for cowardice??

I particularly like number 51 Spreading false information reducing morale :D

Your post implies that the United States has an inherent right to be the only nation in the world to own or posses nukes. While I don't necessarily approve of the movement of nukes and weapons and the facilitation thereof, it is wrong to believe that we should be the only nation to have them and we have the right to dictate what other nations can do in regards to them. The arms that were found poses little to no threat to the United States, so it is silly to get all upset about it.

No, if China decided to give nukes to Iran and Syria it would get a taste of the same.

Then it should be the USSR or today.. Russia, that you should be having the embargo on.

You're saying the vendor is the offender not their clients... Just to be consistent. :)
