I think most of us are shocked that an intruded got into the president's residence. It should never happen, just one mistake like this could be devastating.

Yes
No.
Other.

It's always a tricky thing.

I think whenever big things like this happen, it's always natural to want to blame the leader, but it could have been one guy slow on the mark in the control room, or confusion among 3 or 4 front line personnel on exactly where he went.

And yes sometimes under poor leadership, procedures get lax, things get overlooked.

I mean I don't think in the immediate past anyone has ever done what that guy did to actually get into the building.

Ultimately these kinds of firings end up being symbolic and solve very little unless you can clearly show how she was culpable in terms of leadership management.

I think we need to know more.

She should as well be fired for the ridiculous episode in Atlanta where an armed man
just strolled untouched into an elevator with the President.

Yes, that was another ****up.

If that were the case then a good boss would fire whoever violated procedure/policy. The fact that an investigation is needed means that did not happen. Certainly locking and/or guarding an entrance is part of any decent security plan.

It might just be appearances, but does the director of the secret service look like someone
chosen from their ranks? To me her appearance and demeanor do not seem like someone
with a law enforcement background.

I agree. The only person I trust less then Obama as President is Biden

Thing is the Secret Service does not comment on procedure.

End of story.

So I'm not sure if we'd ever know someone was fired over it.

It would be nice to see someone in the government held accountable for something at some point. But I don't hold out much hope of that,

Really? How is one to investigate (come to know more about) that which cannot even be commented on?

Well... it's just generally the Secret Service does not disclose specifics on how their procedures work.

Preliminary investigations certain procedures were not followed, but I doubt you'd get specifics on who or why.

Probably would be in a closed door session.

Google is your friend.

Try it and you will learn that she had about 29 years Secret Service experience when she got the top job.

She majored in Criminal Justice in college, and her first job out of college was beat cop.

Thanks, the Wiki I found did not say any thing about her history.

Best excuse ever. CNN round table discussion this afternoon determined that the lapse in security by the Secret Service is...that's right...Bush's fault. It all started when they allowed Bush to land a jet on an aircraft carrier. Been leading up to this ever since.

Like some other political appointee would be different ?
Nobody in the white house who matters. Wouldnt want the art and artifacts damaged thougj.

She resigned. With all the rabid frothy outrage in the house and senate yesterday, can't say I'm shocked.

Pierson is not a political appointee. She has been in the Secret Service for over 30 years.

Not that political appointees are necessarily bad, and the Secret Service appears so broken
that it might now be time to appoint an outsider to fix it, political or otherwise.

What a ****ty, ****ed up, stupid thing to say.

There was also a considerable amount of outrage outside the House and Senate. How could anyone have missed it?

Most Americans have a sound bite brain. This is already yesterday's news. But th posturing in congress was epic.

Ah, someone is finally listening to me. About time!

NBC: Secret Service Director Julia Pierson Resigns After Breaches

(from link):
(Interim director) Johnson, in announcing Pierson’s resignation on Wednesday, ordered an independent review of the fence-jumping intrusion. He invited the independent panel that will conduct the review to submit names for Pierson’s permanent replacement, including people from outside the Secret Service.

It was not posturing.

It was a fully reasonable bipartisan reaction to a crisis which concerns all Americans.

You are the one who is posturing.

I say, There also should a criminal investigation to see if it was deliberate.

Yes, should have been fired, drawn and quartered. And no, I'm not suprised by all this; I fully expect to come up as asecurity issue - just like Benghazi - and how "the Dems are weak on security"... The guy obviously hated Obama.
