The one that is a racial slur against the Native American population.
I don't find any of them offensive, but I'm also not a native american.
Well, I'm just waiting for a team to be named Fightin' Old White Bitches, and I'm buying the cap and the T-shirt.:2razz:
I guess I have never really thought of that. My Native American friends do refer to themselves as Natives but the ones with Aztec ancestry always say Aztec Indian.

I would think out of any of them listed Redskins is the most offensive but it's really up to the Natives to determine what is offensive to them. So far, from what I've heard from friends is that they don't really care that much.
This is what I was going to say -- it doesn't matter if we find it offensive. It's what they find offensive that matters.
Personally I don't see why any of it would be considered offensive. They've been called "red men" for as long as I've been alive, and only recently, in this "touchy, feely, everybody gets a trophy" world did they seem to become vocal over it. Could be a case of, "How dare those white devils call you this? You should be upset!!" 50 to 1, it started out with a lawyer.

I would agree. the only one which stands out as a pejorative is REDSKINS. They need to change that.
I thought the Aztecs were Mexican, but hey I'm just a lowly Canadian. Perhaps with so many Mexicans taking up residence in the US, you've also adopted their history.
Which of these Indian mascot/team names do you believe to be offensive?
Aztecs
Blackhawks
Braves
Chiefs
Illini
Indians
Redskins
Seminoles
(Fighting) Sioux
Warriors
Please note that this thread and poll are asking for YOUR opinion. If you feel the need to defer to others and their opinions, then this thread is not a good match for you. You may choose multiple options.
"None" would mean not choosing any of them.
But why? I don't get butthurt when somebody calls me white. Black people don't get butthurt when somebody calls them black. Hispanics don't get upset when somebody calls them brown. Why do Indians feel the need to be offended over something that only very recently started bothering them?
They are just looking for money, in my opinion. Which Nation is yelling the loudest? Are they a wealthier Nation, like the Oneidas who have opened Casinos, hotels, etc, or are they a poor Nation, like the Onondagas, who like to sit around and be jealous of everything the Oneidas worked hard for and built?
It is an obvious difference that I see. If you do not see it - or if you opt not to see it - that is your right.
Ask natives, their opinion is the only one that counts to me in this matter.
Why on Earth would I care what some white guy (for example) thinks about the word 'Seminole'...it has nothing directly to do with him?
I asked you why. Can you answer to me why it is offensive? If it is so obvious, it shouldn't be that difficult to explain to my why.
More appropriately...SOME mejicans are of Azteca descent...but there was no mejico. Most mejicans are a bi-product of Spanish conquest of the natives.I thought the Aztecs were Mexican, but hey I'm just a lowly Canadian. because its an obvious reference to skin color and the defining nature of skin color.
'Merging"...that sounds so much more sanitary than 'conquered'."Mexican" is the term given to the Christian mestizo culture that was created with the merging of spanish and native influences. Aztecs are native Indians. The mascot was probably shosen because San Diego is close to the Mexican border.
