You sit at a desk? I thought you said you were a cop.

As far as rebellions carrying over into adulthood, this thread is about kids. It's not about adults. It's about kids who have off the wall hairstyles. Most of us had off the wall hairstyles. I did. I was a child of the 70s and 80s, so I had a mullet, and at one time, had a rat tail that went down to my waist. I grew out of that ****, though, and am now a responsible adult. As most kids do.

And congrats on your son. Sounds like he grew up well. Good thing, being a COO of his own company, that he never had an off the wall hairstyle when he was a child in school. He might be in jail today instead of owning his own company.

What I used to do and what I do now are not the issue. Yep, had all the hairstyles popular in the day. Including doo rags.
But I can tell you from first hand experience that many young people come in "looking for jobs", I call it extending unemployment. Because clearly they don't want a job.
Dressed like and speak like and look like garbage. People get that somewhere. Maybe its time the schools try to stem that attitude sooner than later.

I don't know if this is what originally prompted this poll, but figured I'd post it anyway.

School dress codes should not be sexist, especially when it comes to hairstyles. There is really no reason that a boy should not be able to have long hair. This woman shouldn't have had to prove her son was Navajo at all. This school has a sexist policy on hair styles and it shouldn't be allowed just simply because they are treating girls and boys differently for no truly good reason, and it obviously does harm because it causes people to have to prove a religious reason in order to get an exception to the policy.

This sort of thing pisses me off. Boys should not have to keep their hair cut short.

That is the incident that prompted my question, but I have read many similar instances over the years and they all ticked me off.

I agree. To me, there is a lot of sexism there in saying that a boy has to have his hair cut while a girl doesn't. I don't even agree with the whole "hairstyles can't be distracting" thing, but it has to at least be the same for each of the sexes. There should be no gender based school hair policies. There is no reason for that unless people are trying to maintain gender stereotypes, which is wrong.

I'm with you 100%. My biggest issue with the "distracting" argument is that it is too broad and vague.
