Could America face a major terrorist attack from ISIS in the next year?

The news gets worse and worse, and now it appears that ISIS has posted ominous photos as threats to Americans.


Does the US face an attack from ISIS, and if so why?


I think we DO-they wont play nice when they are being defeated in Iraq, and tragically I expect we WILL experience a major attack. I think we should never have pulled out of Iraq and allowed this movement of evil to threaten the USA. The war on terror is not over, and we must remain vigilant.
 
Its pretty easy to pull up an image on your phone of something like that or write something down on a notecard... I say its a possibility? Yes. Anything is. But im not too worried.
 
I would be surprised at a "major" attack, but would not be surprised at various homegrown boys stirring up ****, and getting people worried and upset.

Well, we COULD face a terrorist attack at any time.
I just don't think terrorists have the ability to launch a major attack.
If they had the ability they would have launched an attack in the years since 911.
911 was their high point and I don't think they're capable of much more.
Besides, anything short of a huge nuclear/chemical attack won't faze Americans.
We have children massacred in schools, movie theaters shootings, military base killings etc.
We don't even miss a beat.
 
Problem with this question/poll is the "could". Hell anything "could happen".....

Yes, but I believe an attack is now more likely. Obama let these terrorists grow like an infection, and now the earth has a fever. Obama is not the prescription.

Who knows? I mean because they said so? Possibly. Lots of threats have been made on us. If anything, if an attack does come, I dont think it will be large.

The history with ISIS and the US is defiantly complicated.
 
It's becoming clear that this country should have kept a substantial force--say a mix of 20,000 Army and Marine troops with armor, artillery, and reconnaissance and attack aircraft--at several bases around Iraq. This would have been similar to what has been kept in Korea for the past sixty years, only on a somewhat smaller scale. Our forces have to be based somewhere, and it might as well be in or near where they would be needed if fighting broke out. This force could have been augmented by ships and submarines operating in the Persian Gulf.

Ten thousand or so poorly trained savages, equipped with a lot of shiny new equipment they don't know how to use very effectively, could never have done anything like what they have in northern Iraq if a force like that had been maintained. Whether Iraqis liked having that force based there should not have been a consideration. Like the plea that we were helpless to change the status of forces agreement, that was just another flimsy excuse by this administration for its abject failure of will and leadership.

Not very long ago, this President was dismissing these jihadists as the "jayvee team." And yet now, his Secretary of Defense and his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs are soberly declaring they have never seen anything like them and warning that to wage an effective campaign against them, the border with Syria would have to be ignored. Was Mr. Obama lying then, or are his high officials lying now?

Nailed it. Obama snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and now we are threatened even at home.

They are counting on stupid reactionaries to forment a war.

We have always heard this from the left and yet Obama is now sending in troops, and the terrorists group that is actually surprising the whitehouse with how bad they are can be seen expanding across africa and asia as if they have metastasized.
 
Of course its possible. Our newly open borders make it massively easier.

Oh, I see. These devilishly clever jihadists are making a gambit, just hoping we stupid reactionaries will accept it, and play right into their hands. Since you are obviously more intelligent, what would you suggest? Just letting them consolidate their gains, maybe, and then possibly take over even more of Iraq and Syria? You sound like you don't you want to see the U.S. attack Muslim jihadists--and I wonder why.

Yes, because ISIS recognizes that the USA is a major threat to it's survival.




The USA needs to wipe that organization out before it does some serious damage to the USA.
 
Of course it is possible. Our intelligence agencies seem no 'smarter' than they were in the past, so who knows how much get's by them. We have easy access into the country through the southern border, where 'Homeland Security' isn't looking. They have a desire to kill Americans. So it could happen.

If so it will be a big city. I do not live in a big city, so 1) I am not worried and 2) to be honest we probably need it for the citizens to wake up and stand up to their government, kick out the idiots and get them focused on crap that matters.

Yep. 9/11 worked pretty damn well for Al Qaeda, didn't it? A trillion US dollars vaporized, and AQ with more members and better recruiting.

Depends on how stupid they are. If there is a second 9/11 or something similar, I think there are going to be a lot of very dead Muslims guilty and innocent alike. Scorched earth most likely. Obama will have NO choice in the matter because it will be a tidal wave of anger bearing down on the white house that no one would risk going against for fear of drowning.
